The Mainframe Presales Technical Consultant supports the sales team in positioning and winning IBM Z (z/OS) mainframe product opportunities. The consultant presents prepared product sales decks to customers, coordinates and implements proof-of-concepts (POCs), and works on RFP/RFQ responses. The role requires hands-on mainframe experience and a willingness to build basic implementation knowledge of the products being sold — with structured training and guidance provided. It is an excellent opportunity for a mainframe engineer with 2–5 years of experience to move into a customer-facing presales career path.
Run through mainframe product sales decks with customers, presenting product features, benefits, and use cases clearly and confidently.
Handle customer questions during presentations and follow up on technical queries with support from senior staff or product vendors.
Support customer meetings and engagement activities throughout the sales cycle.
Coordinate the end-to-end POC activities — planning, environment preparation, scheduling, and communication with the customer and internal/vendor teams.
Implement the POC hands-on, performing product installation, configuration, and demonstration of agreed use cases in the customer or lab environment.
Document POC results and present outcomes and findings to the customer.
Work on completing RFP/RFQ responses when they are issued — preparing technical writeups, compliance responses, solution descriptions, and supporting documentation within submission deadlines.
Coordinate inputs from sales, senior consultants, and product vendors to ensure complete and accurate responses.
Learn and maintain basic implementation knowledge of the mainframe products in the portfolio (installation, configuration, and common deployment scenarios).
Participate actively in product training, vendor enablement sessions, and certification programs.
2–5 years of working experience in a mainframe environment (z/OS; exposure to CICS, MQ, or DB2 is an advantage).
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience.
Good presentation and communication skills — comfortable presenting prepared materials to customers and handling questions professionally.
Hands-on technical aptitude, with the ability or strong willingness to learn to install and configure mainframe products for POCs and simple implementations.
Good documentation and writing skills for RFP/RFQ responses and POC reports.
Strong willingness to learn new products.
Well-organized, able to coordinate activities across customers, sales teams, and vendors.
Willing to travel for customer meetings, POCs, and job assignments.
