About the role
A. Legal Advisory & Risk Management
- Oversee the Group's legal affairs and provide legal advice and guidance to Management and business units on corporate, commercial, and operational matters across local and overseas business operations.
- To implement key legal processes that relate to legal drafting, negotiations, and commercial settlement agreements.
- To manage legal risk within the business by taking responsibility for providing legal advice to the business’s senior leadership on all legal matters affecting their individual departmental transactions.
- To provide senior leadership across the business with strategic and operational guidance, aiding them in the management of litigation issues such as contract disputes and product liability.
- To review and provide advice to the business upon request on matters concerning applicable contracts required for operation of the business.
- To instruct and assist external legal partners where necessary identifying potential legal risks and assessing the issues impacting legal risk, which ensures that all of the business’s risk management approaches are viable.
- To collaborate with departmental leadership and key stakeholders across the business in overseeing and ensuring legal compliance across the business, maintaining the business’s integrity both internally and externally (reputational risk).
- To prepare, review contracts, agreements, letters and legal documents (Including purchasing contracts, vendor/supplier contracts, celebrity contracts, overseas contracts, partnership contracts etc).
- To perform other duties as fit for the proper execution as delegated by the superior.
B. Corporate, Regulatory & Dealer Compliance
- Oversee the Group's compliance activities across local and overseas business operations, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulatory requirements, contractual obligations, and internal policies.
- Develop, review, and implement compliance policies, procedures, guidelines, and internal controls to strengthen corporate governance and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
- Manage the Group's intellectual property matters, including trademark registration, renewal, protection, and potential infringement issues across local and overseas markets.
- Establish and oversee dealer compliance guidelines to ensure adherence to Company policies, contractual obligations, product claims guidelines, authorized pricing policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Monitor dealer conduct and address potential compliance violations, including misleading product claims, unauthorized promotions, misuse of Company materials, and other practices that may expose the Group to legal, regulatory, or reputational risks.
- Oversee internal compliance investigations, dealer complaints, and reported violations, including evaluating findings, recommending corrective actions, and monitoring their implementation.
- Maintain appropriate compliance records, risk registers, and reporting mechanisms, and provide Management with timely updates on material compliance matters and potential business risks.
C. Data Protection Officer (DPO)
- Serve as the Company's designated Data Protection Officer (DPO) for applicable entities and oversee compliance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) and relevant data protection laws.
- Develop and implement data protection policies, privacy notices, procedures, and internal controls.
- Assess and monitor personal data processing risks and support Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) where required.
- Assist with personal data breaches and security incidents, including required submissions to the Commissioner.
- Serve as the contact point for data subjects and coordinate with relevant departments on DPO responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in legal and/or compliance.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Business Administration, Management or a related field.
- Experience at managerial level in Law/Legal Services or equivalent is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of Malaysian laws and regulations, particularly company and contract law.
- Strong contract drafting, review and legal advisory capabilities.
- Good understanding of Malaysia's PDPA and relevant data protection regulations, with experience in privacy governance or DPO-related responsibilities.
- Experience in handling regional or cross-border legal matters, overseas commercial agreements, and coordination with external legal counsel.
- Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership, time, task and resource-management skills.
- High integrity, self-motivation and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Detail-oriented, organised and capable of managing multiple responsibilities.
- Understand Mandarin is an added advantage for this position.
