Job summary

Malaysian Bar is seeking a Legal Associate (Corporate & Compliance) to support corporate and commercial due diligence, draft and review agreements, and provide regulatory and governance advisory. The role covers PDPA compliance, cross-border data transfers, and OSHA considerations for local and foreign entities.

• Excellent drafting and research skills with a practical, business-first mindset.

Responsibilities

• Support corporate and commercial due diligence exercises – reviewing corporate records, contracts, licences and compliance positions, and reporting findings clearly and commercially.
• Draft and review commercial and corporate agreements.
• Corporate advisory for local entities and foreign subsidiaries, including governance and constitutional documents.
• Regulatory compliance advisory focusing on PDPA, including 2024 amendments and cross-border data transfer requirements for foreign subsidiaries operating in Malaysia.
• OSHA compliance under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.
• Licensing and regulatory applications – identifying approvals, preparing submissions, liaising with authorities.
• Prepare concise legal memoranda, compliance manuals, policies and client briefings.
• Coordinate with clients, counterparties, regulators and service providers, keeping matters moving.

Legal Associate (Corporate & Compliance)

• Support corporate and commercial due diligence exercises – reviewing corporate records, contracts,licences and compliance positions, and reporting findings clearly and commercially.

• Regulatory compliance advisory, with a focus on the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA), includingthe 2024 amendments and cross-border data transfer requirements for foreign subsidiaries operating inMalaysia.
• Occupational safety and health (OSHA) compliance under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.
• Licensing and regulatory applications – identifying approvals required, preparing and submittingapplications, and liaising with the relevant authorities to completion.
• Prepare concise, practical legal memoranda, compliance manuals, policies and client briefings.
• Coordinate with clients, counterparties, regulators and service providers, and keep matters moving.
• Assist the firm’s partners in business development activities

Qualifications and Requirements

• LL.B and admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya; 3–5 years’ PQE in corporate,commercial or regulatory compliance work.
• Working knowledge of the Companies Act 2016, the PDPA and the Occupational Safety and Health Act1994, and confidence navigating Malaysian licensing and regulatory regimes.
• Excellent drafting and research skills with a practical, business-first mindset.
• Strong command of English; given our client base, any other languages are a bonus.
• Comfortable owning multiple files concurrently, with clear prioritisation and communication.
• Tech-savvy and process-oriented (Microsoft 365, SharePoint/Teams, document templates/automation).
