Job summary

Soulyard Cafe in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a passionate and responsible Sous Chef to join our kitchen team. You will work closely with the Head Chef to oversee daily kitchen operations, maintain food quality and consistency, and help the kitchen run smoothly and efficiently.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on team player with leadership skills, a positive attitude, keen attention to detail, and a genuine passion for food and the F&B industry.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in managing and supervising daily kitchen operations.
• Lead, guide and support kitchen staff to ensure smooth workflow during service.
• Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented according to Soulyard's recipes, standards and quality expectations.
• Maintain consistency in taste, portioning, presentation and food quality.
• Oversee daily mise en place and ensure all ingredients are properly prepared and ready for service.
• Monitor food preparation, cooking processes and plating during service.
• Step in and assist at different kitchen stations when required, especially during busy periods.
• Ensure proper food handling, hygiene, sanitation and kitchen safety standards are consistently followed.
• Monitor ingredient usage, food wastage and portion control to minimise unnecessary costs.
• Assist with stock checking, inventory control and communicating ingredient requirements to the Head Chef.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment, workstations and storage areas are clean, organised and properly maintained.
• Train and coach junior kitchen team members on recipes, preparation methods, kitchen procedures and hygiene standards.
• Communicate effectively with the FOH team to ensure smooth and efficient service.
• Assist the Head Chef with menu preparation, recipe development and seasonal specials when required.
• Identify operational issues within the kitchen and proactively assist in resolving them.
• Ensure all food preparation and kitchen operations comply with company SOPs and food safety standards.
• Take responsibility for maintaining a positive, respectful and professional kitchen environment.
• Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned by the Head Chef or management.
