Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking a Mechanical Lead for a hyperscale data center project in Port Dickson, Malaysia. The role focuses on technical and construction leadership of mechanical systems, ensuring safe, on-spec delivery and alignment with project programme.

The ideal candidate will oversee installation, testing, commissioning and handover, coordinating with client, consultants, contractors, and vendors to resolve interface issues and maintain quality across all mechanical disciplines.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical construction experience in large-scale building, infra, industrial or data center projects.
• Proficient in reviewing mechanical designs, shop drawings, and submittals.
• Fluent English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical construction activities from installation through testing and handover.

Mechanical Lead

Our agency is looking for a Mechanical Lead on behalf of a global American PMC for a hyperscale data center project in Port Dickson, Malaysia.

Our client is engaged as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the project, supporting the delivery of major data center facilities for a leading American technology company.

The Role

The Mechanical Lead will provide technical and construction leadership for mechanical systems across the project, overseeing installation, coordination, testing and commissioning activities. The role will work closely with the client, consultants, contractors and specialist vendors to ensure mechanical works are delivered safely, to specification and in line with the project programme.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead mechanical construction activities across the data center project, from installation through testing, commissioning and handover


• Provide technical oversight of critical mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water, cooling systems, pumps, piping, ventilation, heat rejection and associated mechanical infrastructure


• Review mechanical designs, shop drawings, technical submittals, equipment schedules, method statements and installation proposals


• Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, structural, architectural, civil and specialist systems to manage interfaces and resolve clashes


• Monitor contractor progress, manpower, sequencing and installation quality against the approved construction programme


• Ensure mechanical installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, standards and project requirements


• Review equipment and material submissions and support technical evaluations of mechanical equipment and systems


• Manage technical RFIs, design clarifications, site issues and non-conformances, driving timely resolution with relevant stakeholders


• Coordinate mechanical testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, ensuring systems are properly installed, tested and ready for operational use


• Work closely with the commissioning team on system readiness, functional testing, integrated testing and resolution of commissioning issues


• Monitor mechanical punch lists, outstanding works and defects through to closure


• Coordinate as-built drawings, testing records, O&M documentation and other mechanical handover requirements


• Identify mechanical construction, programme and technical risks and provide recommendations to project leadership and the client

Requirements

• Strong mechanical construction experience within major building, infrastructure, industrial or data center projects


• Strong knowledge of HVAC, chilled water systems, cooling infrastructure, mechanical plant and associated piping systems


• Experience managing mechanical contractors and specialist subcontractors on complex projects


• Good understanding of mechanical testing, commissioning and handover processes


• Strong English proficiency is essential, both written and spoken


• Data center experience is an advantage, but not essential


• Comfortable working in a fully site-based environment across Port Dickson.


• Willing to work in a site-based environment, including Saturdays as required by the project

• Contract: 1-year renewable contract


• Potential opportunity to convert to a permanent position after the first year, subject to project and business requirements
