Job summary

HOMA ENGINEERING (M) SDN BHD is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Intern Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Penang Island. This full-time internship offers exposure to bills of quantities, cost estimation, and project management on real construction projects.

You will gain mentorship from experienced QS professionals, participate in site visits, and learn to use QS software and tools while developing practical skills for a career in construction cost control.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed degree in QS/CM/CE.
• Strong numeracy and meticulous attention to detail.
• Proficient in English; good communication skills.
• Proficiency with Excel; MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and analysis of bills of quantities for construction projects.
• Support collection and organisation of project documentation and cost data.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to gather information for cost estimation and variations.
• Help with measurement and quantification of construction works per relevant standards.
• Assist in the preparation of cost reports and project financial statements.
• Support the procurement process by liaising with suppliers and contractors for quotations and pricing information.
• Learn and apply quantity surveying software and tools used in the industry.
• Assist in contract administration tasks, including variation orders and claims documentation.
• Contribute to the preparation of presentations and reports for project stakeholders.

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Intern Quantity Surveyor to join HOMA ENGINEERING (M) SDN BHD. This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career in the construction and surveying industry whilst gaining practical experience in quantity surveying practices. Based in Penang Island, Penang, this full-time internship role will provide you with invaluable exposure to the real-world applications of quantity surveying, cost estimation, and project management within a dynamic and professional environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and analysis of bills of quantities for construction projects
• Support the collection and organisation of project documentation and cost data
• Participate in site visits and inspections to gather information for cost estimation and variations
• Help with the measurement and quantification of construction works in accordance with relevant standards and practices
• Assist in the preparation of cost reports and project financial statements
• Support the procurement process by liaising with suppliers and contractors for quotations and pricing information
• Learn and apply quantity surveying software and tools used in the industry
• Assist in contract administration tasks, including variation orders and claims documentation
• Contribute to the preparation of presentations and reports for project stakeholders

What we’re looking for

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• Strong numeracy and mathematical skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Excellent organisational and time management abilities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Keen interest in the construction industry and quantity surveying practices
• Willingness to learn and develop professional knowledge and skills
• Familiarity with construction terminology and practices is advantageous
• Able to comminicate with Mandarin, Malay and English
