Job summary

Versatile Materials in Kuala Lumpur is seeking an experienced interior designer specializing in cabinetry to translate client briefs into functional spaces.

You will create concept designs, prepare samples and shop drawings, and coordinate with clients and site teams to ensure design intent aligns with budget and schedule. Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop and MS Office, plus Mandarin, is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Architectural / Interior Design required.
• 2–5 years in cabinetry or related projects.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, 3D Max/SketchUp, Photoshop and MS Office.
• Strong technical detailing and design execution.
• Able to work independently and in a team.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Fluent in English and Mandarin for client communication.
• Knowledge of cabinetry, carpentry details, and site coordination is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Develop creative design concepts to meet client needs.

• Conduct site measurements with site coordinator to ensure design compliance.
• Visit and supervise sites when required.
• Perform administrative tasks related to the design team.
• Follow up on outstanding works and assist with site-related issues.

Job description

Develop creative design concept to meet client’s needs and requirements.

Communicate and interact effectively with clients to develop designs that suit their needs.

Communicate and coordinate with clients, supplier, contractors, and site teams to address design and technical matters.

Source materials, finishes, and furnishing that meet both design intent and project budget.

Prepare sample and materials boards and shop drawings for client approval.

Produce concept designs, including space planning, 2D/3D concept design and detail drawings when require.

Prepare as-built drawing upon project completion.

Conduct site measurements with site coordinator when required, to ensure work is carried out as per design specifications.

Visit and supervise sites when necessary.

Perform administrative task related to the design team.

Proactively follow up on outstanding works and issues and assist in resolving site-related problems.

Requirements

• Diploma in Architectural / Interior Design
• 2 to 5 years in cabinetry
• Required skill (s): AUTOCAD, 3D MAX or SKETCHUP, Photoshop and Microsoft Office.
• Strong in technical detailing and practical deign execution.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Strong organizational, multi-tasking and time-management skills.
• Must possess good communication skills in English and Mandarin. We are seeking candidates proficient in Mandarin to effectively communicate with Mandarin-speaking clients.
• Knowledge in cabinetry, carpentry details, and site coordination will be an added advantage.
