Hengyuan Refining Company Berhad is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Field Instrument Engineer to support the reliability, integrity, and performance of refinery field instrumentation systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of field instrumentation assets, providing technical expertise for maintenance, modifications, and capital projects, while ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, IEC standards, company policies, and industry best practices.
Hengyuan Refining Company Berhad is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Field Instrument Engineer to support the reliability, integrity, and performance of refinery field instrumentation systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of field instrumentation assets, providing technical expertise for maintenance, modifications, and capital projects, while ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, IEC standards, company policies, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the integrity, reliability, and availability of field instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, flow, level instruments, and control valves.
- Provide technical expertise for field instrument modifications, maintenance activities, and capital projects while ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, IEC standards, Shell DEP requirements, and company standards.
- Develop and optimize preventive maintenance strategies using reliability methodologies such as RCM, RRM, IPF, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Lead field instrumentation reliability improvement initiatives and support the refinery's bad actor elimination program.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to maintenance and operations teams on field instrumentation systems.
- Coordinate instrumentation activities for projects, plant turnarounds, shutdowns, and commissioning.
- Ensure high reliability and availability of critical refinery equipment and facilities, including:
- MAB, WGC, PP Compressor, Instrument Air Compressor, K-451, UTB, COB
- PU1 facilities (CD1, CD2, Plat2, MVU, OMS Blending, Tank Gauging, CTM, Gantry, LPG Bottling)
- PU2 facilities (LRCC, HIJAU, SCOT, HMU, and E4M)
- Support new business initiatives by developing instrumentation work scopes and providing technical solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement through cost optimization, LEAN initiatives, and effective asset management practices.
- Ensure all instrumentation activities are executed in full compliance with HSSE requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Candidates with a Technical Diploma and significant relevant experience may also be considered.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in refinery or oil & gas field instrumentation maintenance and engineering.
- Strong knowledge of field instrumentation design, sizing, selection, hook-up drawings, and control systems.
- Experience with Honeywell DCS/FSC and third-party PLC systems.
- Good understanding of hazardous area requirements in accordance with IEC 60079.
- Knowledge of IEC 61511, IEC 61508, Instrumented Protective Functions (IPF), and functional safety principles.
- Familiarity with Shell DEP standards, refinery operational practices, and HSSE requirements.
- Knowledge of CTM standards and custody transfer instrumentation is an added advantage.
- Experience in project development, detailed engineering, and execution of instrumentation and multidisciplinary projects.
- TÜV Functional Safety certification is an added advantage.
