About the role

GAMBIR SPORTS SDN BHD is seeking an experienced Head of Operation and Strategic Development to lead our operational excellence and strategic growth initiatives. This is a full-time position based in Johor Bahru, Johor, where you will take on a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping the future direction of the organisation whilst ensuring seamless day-to-day operations. This role is central to our company's success, bridging operational efficiency with long-term strategic planning to drive competitive advantage and sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive operational strategies that align with the company's overall vision and business objectives

Oversee and optimise day-to-day operations across all departments, ensuring efficiency, quality and compliance with established standards

Lead strategic planning initiatives, including market analysis, competitive positioning and identification of growth opportunities

Manage operational budgets and resource allocation to maximise profitability and operational performance

Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational success and strategic progress

Build and mentor a high-performing operational and strategic team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation

Collaborate with senior leadership to identify expansion opportunities and new market segments

Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal governance standards across operations

Drive process improvement initiatives and implement best practices throughout the organisation

Manage stakeholder relationships and communicate strategic updates to key business partners

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Strategy or a related discipline; an MBA or equivalent advanced qualification is highly desirable

Minimum 8-10 years of experience in operations management, strategic planning or business development roles, ideally within a sports, leisure or services industry

Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing operational and strategic initiatives that have driven measurable business results

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights

Excellent strategic thinking and business acumen with a deep understanding of operational frameworks and methodologies

Demonstrated leadership capability with experience managing and developing high-performing teams

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all organisational levels

Experience with operational systems, process mapping and continuous improvement methodologies (such as Lean or Six Sigma)

Strong financial acumen and experience managing P&L responsibilities

Experience in strategy development, market analysis and competitive positioning

Proficiency in business software and data analytics tools

Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
