Head of Human Resources
Westlake International School is looking for an experienced, capable, and people-focused Head of Human Resources to lead the HR function. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior HR professional who enjoys both the strategic and hands‑on aspects of human resource management. You will play a key role in supporting the School's leadership team, strengthening people practices and ensuring that employees are well supported throughout their employment journey.
As Head of HR, you will oversee the full spectrum of human resource management, including employee relations, performance management, recruitment, manpower planning, staff welfare and retention, HR policies and employment administration. The role will also oversee selected regulatory and administrative matters relating to teacher permits, expatriate staff, school licensing and other statutory requirements.
Provide professional HR advice and guidance to Management on employee-related matters.
Manage employee relations issues and workplace concerns in a fair, professional and timely manner.
Handle disciplinary and misconduct matters, including investigations, documentation and follow-up.
Support staff welfare, engagement and retention initiatives.
Promote a positive, professional and collaborative workplace culture.
Lead and coordinate the School's performance management and appraisal processes.
Monitor and maintain probation and confirmation processes.
Support the timely and appropriate management of performance concerns.
Work with Management on manpower planning and staffing requirements.
Oversee recruitment processes and support recruitment decisions.
Ensure an efficient and professional candidate experience from recruitment through to appointment.
Oversee the onboarding of new employees.
Prepare and manage employment contracts and related documentation.
Ensure employment contracts and required documentation are properly processed.
Oversee new staff documentation, insurance registration and relevant statutory requirements.
Coordinate staff accommodation arrangements where applicable.
Manage the resignation, exit and clearance process.
Ensure compliance with notice periods and contractual requirements.
Coordinate exit interviews with the Principal and conduct exit interviews where required.
Ensure appropriate handover, clearance and relevant administrative processes are completed.
Review, develop and implement HR policies, procedures and guidelines.
Ensure HR practices are properly documented and consistently implemented.
Maintain accurate HR records, trackers and documentation.
Identify opportunities to strengthen HR systems, processes and compliance.
The Head of HR will also oversee and coordinate selected areas including:
Teacher permit applications and renewals.
Visa and immigration arrangements for expatriate teachers and their accompanying family members.
Liaison with relevant government and regulatory authorities.
Maintenance of relevant licensing and regulatory records.
Administration and monitoring of school vehicle documentation, including insurance, road tax and other required documents.
The ideal candidate will be a confident and experienced HR professional with strong judgement, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to balance the needs of employees with those of the organisation.
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management or a related discipline
Minimum 8 years of progressive HR experience, preferably with at least 3 years in a senior or managerial HR role
Strong experience in employee relations, disciplinary matters, performance management and recruitment
Experience in developing and implementing HR policies, procedures and systems
Good knowledge of Malaysian employment practices and statutory requirements
Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Highly organised, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities
High level of professionalism, integrity, discretion and confidentiality
Able to communicate and write fluently in English and Bahasa Malaysia
Possess own transport and be willing to travel when required
