Job summary

Unisteel Technology (M) Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced Engineering Leader to drive UTM Engineering and NPI governance, aligning with Sales, Production, Quality and Supply Chain to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.

You will lead fastener, machined components, and other product families from inquiry through ramp-up, using data-driven methods and Six Sigma to improve cost, quality and speed to market.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
• 10–15+ years in engineering roles with progressive leadership responsibilities or similar senior-level position.
• Hands-on experience in front-end and back-end development.
• Strong project management with practical Agile application.
• Proficiency with CAD software and data analysis tools such as Power BI.
• Decisive under pressure with a bias for action in fast-paced manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead UTM Engineering/NPI function with clear technical & project accountability; coordinate with Sales, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain.
• Lead UTM Engineering and NPI activities for new customer projects across fasteners, machined components, and other families from inquiry to launch.
• Develop manufacturable customer solutions and provide engineering input for quotations with expected production costs.
• Manage project scope, timing, cost, risk and quality through stage reviews and handover to Production after ramp-up.
• Build an active engineering network across sites for know-how exchange and benchmarking; promote Six Sigma and data-driven improvement.

Job description

Set the direction for UTM Engineering, project governance and technical capability.

Strengthen engineering knowledge sharing, project leadership, and cross-site technical networking and synergies across UTM.

Drive innovation, structured problem solving and data-driven engineering practices.

Build a capable engineering/ NPI organization that supports growth, industrialization and continuous improvement plan.

Drive new customer projects with Sales from initial customer request through quotation, industrialization and ramp-up, achieving agreed quality and production cost.

Engineering Leadership & Governance

Lead the UTM Engineering /NPI function and establish clear technical & project accountability with close coordination with Sales, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain.

Lead UTM Engineering and NPI activities for new customer projects, covering fasteners, machined components, and other product families from the initial customer inquiry through project launch, in close collaboration with the Sales team.

Develop manufacturable, customer solutions and provide engineering input for quotations, including expected production costs and key technical assumptions.

Manage project scope, timing, cost, risk, and quality through structured stage reviews, ensuring disciplined handover to Production following successful ramp-up.

Technical Standards & Knowledge Sharing

Build and maintain an active engineering network with other SFS sites for know-how exchange and benchmarking.

Align CAD activities, engineering methods and technical documentation where appropriate.

Strengthen knowledge sharing across the entity and reduce dependency on individual know-how.

Promote structures problem solving and Six Sigma methods in engineering and improvement work.

Use data analytics and Power BI where useful to improve engineering visibility and decision-making.

Support process capability, productivity, quality and cost improvement through engineering solutions.

Drive innovation activities and translate relevant ideas into practical manufacturing solutions.

Challenge existing methods and identify technologies or approaches that improve UTM competitiveness.

Requirement

Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.

10–15+ years in engineering roles, with progressive leadership responsibilities or in a similar senior-level position at an engineering department.

Hands-on experience in both front-end and back-end development.

Strong project management skills with a solid understanding and practical application of Agile methodologies.

Proficiency with CAD software and data analysis tools such as Power BI.

Decisive under pressure, with a strong bias for action and the ability to thrive in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
