Job summary

KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital seeks a Strategic & Operational Leader to oversee its laboratory, ensuring timely and accurate diagnostic services while guiding daily operations to support hospital growth.

The role drives quality and compliance with ISO 15189 and MSQH standards, leads multidisciplinary teams, and manages training, budgeting, procurement, and equipment lifecycle to sustain high-quality care.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the daily operations of the laboratory to ensure timely, accurate, high-quality diagnostic services.
• Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with hospital direction and growth.
• Monitor KPIs, turnaround times, test volumes, productivity, and client satisfaction.
• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate daily laboratory operations for efficient service delivery.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and accreditation standards (ISO 15189, MSQH).
• Oversee internal audits, proficiency testing, and quality indicators.
• Lead, mentor, and evaluate a multidisciplinary team of laboratory professionals.
• Maintain staff levels, competencies, and ongoing training.
• Foster staff engagement, development, and succession planning.
• Manage the laboratory budget, procurement, and lifecycle of equipment and supplies.
• Support adoption of new technologies and digital solutions; liaise with clinicians and referral partners.

Job description

Strategic & Operational Leadership:

• Lead and oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality diagnostic services.
• Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with company direction and business growth.
• Monitor operational KPIs, turnaround times (TAT), test volumes, productivity, and client satisfaction.
• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the daily operations of the laboratory to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.

Quality & Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, licensing requirements, and accreditation standards (ISO 15189, MSQH, etc.).
• Oversee and participate in internal audits, external assessments, and proficiency testing programs.
• Promote a strong culture of quality and patient safety throughout the laboratory team.
• Ensure the maintenance and periodic review of SOPs, risk registers, HIRARC, and quality indicators.

Human Resource Management:

• Lead, mentor, and evaluate a multidisciplinary team of laboratory professionals including scientists, MLTs, and support staff.
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels, competencies, and training to support service needs.
• Foster staff engagement, career development, and succession planning.
• Oversee the implementation of orientation, in-service training, and continuing education programs.

Financial & Resource Management:

• Develop and manage the laboratory’s operational budget in alignment with corporate financial goals.
• Monitor cost-effectiveness and support initiatives for revenue generation and cost control.
• Oversee procurement, maintenance, and lifecycle management of laboratory equipment and supplies.

Innovation & Client Relations:

• Support the introduction of new technologies, tests, and digital solutions to enhance service capabilities.
• Liaise with clinicians, clients, and referral partners to ensure responsiveness to clinical needs and service excellence.
• Address client feedback, complaints, and incident investigations with professionalism and accountability.
