Job summary

KPJ Healthcare Berhad is seeking a Laboratory Scientist to perform precise diagnostic testing and deliver reliable results to support clinical decisions.

You will uphold ISO 15189/ISO 9001 standards, manage quality control, and maintain instrument performance while ensuring safety and accurate data reporting. The role includes mentoring junior staff and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Degree in medical laboratory science required.
• Experience with ISO 15189/ISO 9001 compliance preferred.
• Proficiency in standard laboratory techniques and safety practices.
• Strong data reporting, documentation and quality improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen testing with precision and timely reporting.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and analyzers.
• Ensure proficiency in LIS protocols and data entry accuracy.
• Support quality control, calibration, and proficiency testing activities.
• Assist in policy documentation, cost control, and safety compliance.
• Train and mentor junior staff and participate in onboarding.

Job description

Perform laboratory testing and analyses with precision and accuracy to support clinical diagnoses, medical research, and patient care. The Laboratory Scientist ensures the reliability of test results by adhering to standardized procedures, maintaining quality control, and complying with safety and regulatory standards.

Clinical & Operations

• Ensure timely and efficient delivery of laboratory services, including specimen testing, reporting, and quality control.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and analyzers.
• Ensure proficiency in laboratory techniques and adherence to Laboratory Information System (LIS) protocols.
• Maintain cleanliness, ensure adequate supplies, and support new service implementations.

Administrative

• Assist in policy documentation, quality assurance, and cost control.
• Collect and provide accurate statistical data, including quality improvement and antibiogram reports.
• Support the Laboratory Manager in ensuring efficient service delivery and compliance with safety protocols.
• Perform additional duties assigned by management.

Staff Development

• Stay updated on diagnostic techniques and maintain personal competency through continuous learning.
• Assist in training, mentoring, and evaluating junior staff.
• Contributes to planning and conducting orientation and training programs.

Quality, Safety & Health

• Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 and ISO 15189 standards and maintain related records.
• Promote and comply with safety practices, including proper handling of hazardous materials and waste management.
• Participate in risk management, HIRARC, 5S, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
• Maintain proper hand hygiene and uphold organizational standards (e.g., KPJ Way).

Decision-Making & Latitude

• Exercise limited decision-making authority within established policies and procedures.
• Significant clinical and managerial issues must be escalated to management.
