Job summary

Nord Anglia Education Malaysia is seeking a confident accounting professional to ensure the integrity of the general ledger and lead timely financial close and reporting. You will coordinate AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, banking, tax and intercompany processes while strengthening controls and supporting planning decisions.

The role covers month-end close, journal postings, variance analysis, reconciliations, budgeting support, and audit coordination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Typically 3–5 years of general-ledger or financial accounting experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, especially Excel, and ERP systems (Dynamics NAV/Business Central).
  • Experience with consolidation tools such as OneStream is advantageous.

Job description

Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and deliver accurate, timely financial close, reporting, reconciliations and statutory support. The role coordinates core accounting activities across AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, banking, tax and intercompany processes while strengthening financial controls and supporting planning and decision-making.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
General ledger and period close

Coordinate the month-end and year-end close timetable for assigned entities or ledgers and ensure transactions are complete, accurate and posted by deadline.

Prepare and post authorised journals for accruals, prepayments, payroll, allocations, depreciation, foreign exchange and other close adjustments with clear support.

Review trial-balance movements and actual results against budget, forecast and prior periods. Investigate and explain significant variances.

Prepare complete balance-sheet reconciliations with ageing, supporting evidence and timely clearance of reconciling items.

Financial reporting and accounting operations

Prepare monthly management accounts, cash-flow, capital-expenditure and KPI packs, and support consolidation or group reporting requirements.

Maintain the chart of accounts, accounting dimensions and recurring journals under approved change controls.

Account for intercompany transactions and balances, complete confirmations and resolve differences by reporting deadlines.

Provide technical accounting support to AP, AR and operational teams and help ensure consistent application of finance policies.

Assets, banking and treasury support

Maintain the fixed-asset register, including additions, transfers, depreciation, impairment indicators, disposals and periodic physical verification.

Complete or review bank reconciliations for all assigned accounts, investigate stale or unusual items and support controlled cash and treasury reporting.

Prepare short-term cash-flow information and support bank, payment-platform and authorised-signatory administration where assigned.

Tax, statutory reporting and audit

Prepare or coordinate accurate GST, VAT, withholding tax, corporate income tax and other applicable filings and reconciliations, working with advisers where required.

Support preparation of annual financial statements and statutory returns in accordance with applicable standards and local requirements.

Coordinate internal and external audit requests, maintain a clear evidence repository, track findings and support timely remediation.

Planning, controls and improvement

Support annual budgeting, periodic forecasting and financial analysis with reliable data and documented assumptions.

Apply financial controls, delegated authorities and segregation of duties, and perform assigned control reviews or compliance checks.

Maintain process documentation, identify root causes of recurring issues and lead practical improvements to close quality, reporting and system use.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. A recognised professional accounting qualification or progress toward one is advantageous.

Typically 3 to 5 years of relevant general-ledger, financial-accounting or audit experience, including full-set or multi-entity accounting exposure.

Strong knowledge of accrual accounting, balance-sheet reconciliation, fixed assets, tax support, financial reporting and period-end close.

Proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Excel, and an ERP system. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Business Central and consolidation tools such as OneStream is advantageous.

Professional working proficiency in English; additional local-language capability may be required.

Maintain confidentiality, safeguard financial and personal data, and comply with delegated authorities, segregation of duties and records-retention requirements.

Follow applicable accounting standards, tax and statutory requirements, internal policies, safeguarding expectations, health and safety obligations, and the organisation’s code of conduct.

Identify control gaps, errors or suspected irregularities promptly and **escalate** them through the appropriate channel.

Maintain professional knowledge, complete required training, support colleagues during peak periods, and undertake other reasonable finance duties consistent with the role.

SAFEGUARDING

Must hold a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure or equivalent for countries lived in outside of the UK.
