Frencken Mechatronics (M) Sdn Bhd seeks a skilled Fitter/Welder to fabricate, fit, assemble and weld metal components per drawings and standards. You will select MIG and TIG processes, prepare materials, align parts, and inspect welds for defects to ensure quality.
Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium is preferred. Responsibilities include reading drawings, performing measurements, and maintaining equipment in a safe, organized workspace in a fast-growing contract
The Fitter/Welder is responsible for fabricating, fitting, assembling, and welding metal components and structures according to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. The role requires the ability to select appropriate welding processes, including MIG and TIG, based on the material, application, and required weld quality.
The Fitter/Welder is also responsible for preparing materials, carrying out accurate fitting and alignment, inspecting completed welds, and identifying defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, and distortion.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, work instructions, and specifications.
Select suitable welding processes, including MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW), according to material type, thickness, joint design, and application.
Select appropriate filler materials, shielding gases, welding consumables, and welding parameters.
Identify and work with materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminium where required.
Measure, mark, cut, drill, grind, and prepare materials for fabrication and welding.
Fit, align, tack weld, and assemble components accurately according to drawings and specified tolerances.
Perform MIG and TIG welding on various joints and components while maintaining consistent weld quality.
Control welding sequence and heat input to minimize distortion and maintain dimensional accuracy.
Inspect completed welds for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, incomplete penetration, spatter, and distortion.
Carry out visual inspection and dimensional checks of completed work.
Repair defective welds by removing defects and re-welding where required.
Use appropriate measuring and inspection tools such as vernier calipers, measuring tapes, squares, levels, gauges, and welding inspection gauges.
Maintain welding machines, hand tools, power tools, and equipment in good working condition.
Follow approved welding procedures, safety requirements, and quality control procedures.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Comply with company safety policies and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
Record completed work, inspection results, and material usage where required.
Perform other fabrication, fitting, and welding duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum SPM / Certificate / Diploma in Welding, Fabrication, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Relevant welding or fabrication certification is an advantage.
2-5 years of experience in fitting, fabrication, and welding is preferred.
Experience in MIG and TIG welding is required.
Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, or other industrial materials is an advantage.
Good knowledge of MIG/GMAW and TIG/GTAW welding processes.
Ability to select suitable welding processes and consumables based on material type, thickness, joint configuration, and application.
Ability to identify different metals and understand their basic welding characteristics.
Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
