Finance Manager (Micro Loan / Fintech Startup)
Location: Petaling Jaya
Company Overview
We are a fast-growing, dynamic Fintech startup specialising in accessible micro-lending and microfinance solutions. Committed to financial inclusion, we leverage technology to empower underserved individuals and micro-businesses across Malaysia. As we establish our brand-new operational hub in Petaling Jaya (PJ), we are seeking an entrepreneurial, agile, and compliance-driven Finance Manager to build our core financial systems, drive capital efficiency, and support our market expansion from the ground up.
Job Responsibilities
As our pioneering Finance Manager, you will report directly to the Management/Co-Founders. You will own the finance function, balancing strategic growth with tight risk controls:
Financial Framework & Infrastructure: Design, implement, and maintain robust accounting policies, internal control systems, and financial workflows tailored for a high-volume micro-lending environment from scratch.
Treasury & Liquidity Management: Monitor and manage daily cash flow, loan disbursements, and collection pipelines to ensure optimal liquidity and prevent capital bottlenecks.
Loan Operations & Automated Reconciliation: Oversee Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP). Ensure daily, seamless reconciliation between bank statements, payment gateways, and the core Loan Management System (LMS).
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Drive annual budgeting, monthly rolling forecasts, and strategic financial modeling. Analyze critical credit metrics, including Net Interest Margin (NIM), Cost of Funds, and Non-Performing Loans (NPL), to advise on product pricing.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting: Ensure full compliance with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS/IFRS), tax regulations (Corporate Tax, e-Invoicing, SST), and local lending regulations (e.g., KPKT statutory requirements, Bank Negara Malaysia guidelines where applicable).
Credit Risk Collaboration: Partner closely with the Credit Risk and Operations teams to review asset quality, project bad debt provisions, and support recovery strategies.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
Professional Qualification: Active membership in professional bodies such as MIA, ACCA, CPA, or CIMA is highly advantageous.
Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 2 years in a micro-loan, consumer finance (BNPL), Fintech, digital lending, or commercial credit environment.
Strong technical knowledge of loan-specific accounting treatments (e.g., interest recognition, credit impairment provisioning under MFRS 9).
High proficiency in advanced MS Excel for financial modelling and data-driven problem-solving.
Experience with modern cloud-based accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks) and automated loan platforms.
