Job summary

Hexamatics Servvcom Sdn Bhd is seeking a DWDM Engineer/Technician to install, configure and maintain optical transport systems ensuring high‑performance connectivity for telcos, data centers and large enterprises.

You will work with DWDM components and test equipment (OSA, OTDR, power meters) and collaborate with the NOC and field technicians. A technical degree and hands-on DWDM experience are required; travel and on-call readiness are essential.

Qualifications

• Technical degree or diploma with hands-on DWDM experience.
• Experience installing, testing and maintaining fiber optic/DWDM systems.
• Proficiency with optical test equipment (OSA, OTDR, power meters).
• Knowledge of fiber splicing, termination and handling.
• Familiarity with major DWDM vendors and network software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Install, provision and configure new DWDM network equipment.
• Test and turn-up fiber optic networks with OSAs, OTDRs and meters.
• Perform preventative maintenance and urgent repairs.
• Diagnose and resolve optical transmission issues.
• Create and maintain network documentation and as-built diagrams.
• Collaborate with NOC, engineers and field technicians on upgrades.
• Provide technical support and escalate as needed.
• Follow safety protocols in high-voltage and confined spaces.

Job description

The DWDM Engineer/Technician will install, configure, and maintain optical transport systems to ensure reliable and high-performance network connectivity. This role is critical for telecommunications providers, data centers, and large enterprises that rely on dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology to transmit multiple data streams over a single fiber.

Key responsibilities

Installation and configuration: Install, provision, and configure new DWDM network equipment, including multiplexers, amplifiers, and transponders.

Testing and turn-up: Perform comprehensive testing of new and existing fiber optic networks using specialized equipment such as Optical Spectrum Analyzers (OSA), Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers (OTDR), and optical power meters.

Maintenance and repair: Conduct routine preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on fiber optic cables and DWDM network components to minimize downtime.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex optical transmission issues, including signal degradation, power fluctuations, and fiber cuts.

Documentation: Create and maintain accurate network documentation, including as-built diagrams, test results, and service reports.

Collaboration: Work closely with network engineers, the Network Operations Center (NOC), and field technicians to coordinate network upgrades and resolve technical issues.

Technical support: Act as a point of contact for technical support, escalating complex issues to higher-tier engineering or vendor support as needed.

Safety compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, especially when working with high-voltage lines, optical equipment, and in confined or elevated spaces.

About you

Diploma or Bachelor Degree in a technical field, with a technical degree or vocational certification in a related field.

Bachelor's degree in Electronics & Telecommunication, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

Proven hands‑on experience in the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic and DWDM systems.

Proficiency with optical test equipment, including 10G/100G/400G Testers, OTDR, OSA, and power meters.

Knowledge of fiber optic splicing, termination, and handling procedures.

Familiarity with DWDM system components and network management software from vendors like Ciena, Nokia, Ribbon, Infinera, or Cisco.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.

Exceptional attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members and vendors.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

Valid driver's license with ability to travel to job sites.

Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments, including at heights and in confined spaces.

Flexibility to be on‑call for 24X7 emergency network support and maintenance.
