Job summary

HOEM Sdn Bhd, based in Malaysia, seeks a Drafting Engineer / CAD Engineer to own the automation-driven drafting library using Autodesk Inventor iLogic. You will create, review, and standardise drawings for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, and bulk handling equipment while ensuring ASME compliance.

Qualifications

HOEM Sdn Bhd is an industrial equipment manufacturer based in Malaysia, providing engineering, design, drafting, fabrication, inspection, testing, and related project support services in accordance with customer requirements and applicable codes and standards, including ASME. Our core products include unfired pressure vessels, shell and tube heat exchangers, hoppers and silos, storage tanks, screw conveyors, pneumatic conveying systems, and other bulk handling equipment.

As we grow, we are building out a stronger Engineering function — including a standardised, automated drafting library that reduces manual drawing effort and improves consistency across projects.

Job Summary:

The Drafting Engineer / CAD Engineer leads the creation, review, and standardisation of technical drawings supporting HOEM's Engineering and Production departments. This is not a purely execution-based drafting role: the successful candidate will own the design of a parametric, iLogic-driven drafting library — using Autodesk Inventor's rule-based programming (iLogic), together with iParts, iAssemblies, iFeatures, and Content Center standardisation — to automate repetitive drawing tasks across HOEM's core product lines (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, hoppers/silos, and conveying equipment).

We are specifically looking for someone with an automation mindset: someone who, on seeing a repetitive drafting task, instinctively looks for the rule, template, or library component that eliminates it — rather than repeating the manual work each time. This role reports to the Engineering Manager and is expected to set the drafting/CAD standard for the wider Engineering team, including mentoring junior drafters.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Drafting & Design

Create, review, and modify detailed technical drawings, schematics, and general arrangement drawings for pressure vessels, shell and tube heat exchangers, storage tanks, hoppers/silos, screw conveyors, pneumatic conveying systems, and other bulk handling equipment.

Ensure drawings comply with ASME codes (Section VIII for pressure vessels and related standards for other equipment types), customer specifications, and HOEM drafting standards.

Produce and check nozzle orientation drawings, tube layout drawings, GD&T callouts, and welding symbols to fabrication-ready standard.

Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and QA/QC to ensure drawings are accurate, constructible, and inspection-ready.

2) iLogic & Design Automation (advantageable)

Own the development and ongoing maintenance of HOEM's Inventor-based design automation library, including iLogic rules, iLogic forms, iParts, iAssemblies, and iFeatures for standard and frequently used components.

Write and test iLogic rules that auto-generate models and drawings from parametric inputs (e.g. vessel diameter, shell length, nozzle configuration, tube count), reducing manual drafting time on repeat-type equipment.

Standardise and maintain Content Center libraries and drawing templates (title blocks, BOM/parts list generation, standard views) so the library is usable company-wide, not just by its creator.

Administer version control of library components (via Vault or equivalent PDM, if/when implemented) to keep the design library organised and audit-ready.

Continuously identify repetitive or error-prone drafting tasks and proactively build automation to eliminate them — this is an expected behaviour of the role, not an occasional project.

Conduct quality checks on drawings — own and others' — to ensure adherence to company standards, industry codes, and customer specifications before issue.

Maintain organised, accessible documentation and revision control for all drawing files and library assets.

Mentor and technically guide junior drafters/CAD engineers on CAD standards, drawing conventions, and use of the design automation library.

Provide technical support to Engineering and Production on drawing-related queries.

Report progress on library development and automation initiatives to the Engineering Manager.

4) Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related field. Candidates with a Diploma and a strong demonstrated portfolio of iLogic/automation work may also be considered.

Minimum 4 years of drafting/CAD experience in mechanical or industrial design, ideally within pressure vessel, heat exchanger, storage tank, or bulk handling equipment fabrication. (fresh graduates are not suitable.)

At least 2–3 years of hands-on experience specifically writing and deploying Autodesk Inventor iLogic rules — not just general CAD experience. (advantageable)

Strong working proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (required). Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks is an advantage.

Working knowledge of ASME Section VIII and related fabrication codes/standards applicable to HOEM's product range is required, not just a plus.

Solid understanding of GD&T and welding symbols as applied to fabrication drawings.

General programming/scripting exposure (e.g. VB.NET, Python, VBA) is an advantage on top of iLogic, particularly for Vault/PDM automation.

Prior experience mentoring or leading junior drafters is an advantage.

Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to both engineers and production staff.
