Job summary

Respond in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is seeking a DevOps Engineer to own our cloud platform end-to-end. This software‑engineering‑first DevOps role collaborates with backend engineers on a high‑throughput messaging platform built on AWS.

You will build internal tooling, run infrastructure forensics, and write production code while applying DevSecOps practices and ensuring reliability and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of combined software development and DevOps experience with hands-on coding in Node.js or Python.
• Solid cloud foundations with hands-on AWS and GCP experience.
• Experience implementing DevSecOps, IaC, CI/CD pipelines and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Provision infrastructure and collaborate with Development teams to ship quality software.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production infra issues across databases, containers, serverless, and queues.
• Develop internal tooling and automations to improve SDLC and platform operations.
• Leverage AI tools to build automations for day-to-day operations.

Role: DevOps Engineer

Department: Backend

Role Description

We are hiring a DevOps Engineer for our growing DevOps team that owns respond.io's cloud platform end-to-end: infrastructure, CI/CD, reliability, security, and cost. This is a software-engineering-first DevOps role. Our team builds internal platform tooling, runs deep infrastructure forensics, operates an increasingly AI-augmented workflow and also writes production code. You will work embedded with backend engineering on a high-throughput messaging platform built on AWS.

What You Will Be Doing

• Bring tangible impact and influence new changes on our platform
• Collaborate with our Development teams to provision infrastructure so they can focus on delivering quality software
• Troubleshoot and resolve production infrastructure issues across databases, search, containers, serverless, and messaging queues
• Develop internal tooling and automations (using Node.js or Python) to improve our SDLC and platform operations
• Leverage AI tools and build AI automations to improve day-to-day operations
• Collaborate with stakeholders to implement SLOs, SLIs, and improve system reliability
• Apply DevSecOps practices and ensure robust backup, disaster recovery, and security controls are in place
• Share knowledge and discuss new initiatives with your team members

Qualifications

• 3+ years of combined software development and DevOps/platform engineering experience, with hands‑on production coding in a modern programming language (Node.js or Python preferably)
• Solid cloud foundations with hands‑on experience in AWS and GCP
• Experience in implementing DevSecOps practices
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, setting up CI/CD pipelines and monitoring
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills for infrastructure at scale: databases, search clusters, containers, serverless, and queues (e.g. RDS, OpenSearch, ECS, Lambda, SQS)
• Experience in implementing Layer 7 defense with WAF and Layer 4 with Network Firewall, good understanding of rate limiting and DDoS, and well‑understanding of securing networks at layer 4
• Proficiency in using AI tools (Claude Code, Codex, or ChatGPT) for day‑to‑day work and building AI automations
• Experience with designing and provisioning highly‑available and scalable solutions
• Good communication skills in English with an ability to clearly explain complex ideas verbally and in writing
• Nimble and agile team player with the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced start‑up environment
• Being AWS Certified is a good‑to‑have
