Job summary

Commerz Global Service Solutions seeks a skilled Backup & Recovery Engineer to design, implement, and automate data protection solutions. You will work with Rubrik and cloud integrations, develop automation with Python and Ansible, and support across international teams.

Responsibilities include monitoring, incident resolution, and optimization of backup environments. Strong scripting and API experience are essential; English is required, German a plus.

Qualifications

• Solid experience in enterprise data backup, ideally with Rubrik and Versity/ScoutAM.
• Knowledge of agent-based backup concepts (Exchange, MS SQL, Oracle) and snapshot-based backup/restore.
• Familiarity with Bare Metal Restore concepts is a plus.
• Good knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Knowledge of ITIL-based IT service management is an advantage.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration in international, agile environments.
• Advanced English communication skills; German is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain monitoring for backup and recovery systems, including dashboards, alerting, and reporting.
• Develop and automate backup/restore processes using Python, Ansible, REST, and GraphQL APIs.
• Work with Rubrik and Versity/ScoutAM for data backup and long-term retention; support Rubrik cloud integration.
• Assist architects and engineers in designing backup and recovery solutions and automation patterns.
• Gather requirements and provide technical input on backup/restore solutions.
• Monitor backup jobs and systems, analyze errors, and drive incident resolution.
• Tune and optimize backup/recovery environments for availability, performance, DR, and security.
• Contribute to PoC activities and evaluations of new backup technologies.
• Maintain documentation for backup/recovery procedures, configurations, monitoring, and scripts.
• Collaborate with architects, admins, and application teams to ensure effective strategies.
• Provide out-of-hours and on-call support in exceptional cases.

Job description

EMEA Hours 08:00 – 17:00 (UTC +01:00) or Malaysian Hours from 3:00PM - 12:00AM.

You may need to support on-call and out of hours support.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain monitoring for backup and recovery systems, including dashboards, alerting, and reporting.
• Continuously develop and improve automation for backup and restore processes using Python, Ansible, REST, and GraphQL APIs.
• Work with Rubrik and Versity/ScoutAM for data backup and long-term retention; support the rollout and integration of Rubrik in the cloud.
• Support architects and senior engineers in designing backup and recovery solutions and implementing automation patterns.
• Assist in gathering and analyzing requirements; provide technical input on backup and restore solutions and support their implementation.
• Monitor backup jobs and systems, analyze errors, and drive incident resolution to maintain stable operations.
• Participate in performance tuning and optimization of backup and recovery environments regarding availability, performance, disaster recovery, and security.
• Contribute to proof-of-concept activities and evaluations of new backup technologies and solutions.
• Maintain and update technical documentation related to backup and recovery procedures, configurations, monitoring, and automation scripts.
• Collaborate closely with architects, system administrators, and application teams to ensure effective backup and restore strategies.
• Provide out-of-hours and on-call support in exceptional cases.

Skills and Qualifications

Special Skills (Automation & APIs)

• Very good knowledge of the Python programming language.
• Very good knowledge of implementing REST and GraphQL APIs; experience with the Rubrik GraphQL API and ServiceNow API is a strong advantage.
• Strong knowledge of Ansible for automation and configuration management.
• Very good knowledge of the software lifecycle.
• Knowledge of the Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) is a plus.
