Job summary

The Access Group in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is seeking a Platform Engineer to join our Global Operations Centre. You will support, maintain and improve the infrastructure services delivered to internal and external customers around the globe, working 24x7 rotation from our KL office with hybrid home-flex options.

Qualifications

• Experience managing backup and restore across multi-site environments.
• Strong understanding of server, storage and networking infrastructures.
• Proven ability to work across VMware/Hyper-V and cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with backup tools (Veeam, Cohesity, Veritas) and cloud backups.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of availability, security, and performance of infrastructure services.
• Troubleshoot issues with infrastructure and application support teams.
• Monitor backups, perform patches and upgrades, and maintain documentation.
• Engage in incident response, ensuring timely service restoration and SLAs.
• Coordinate changes with stakeholders and maintain technical standards.

Reporting to the Cloud Engineering Platform Operations Manager, you will play a key role in supporting, maintaining and improving the infrastructure services we deliver to our internal and external customers around the globe as part of our 24X7 Global Operations Centre based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Platform Engineer is responsible for ensuring our services remains available, secure, cost effective whilst performing to design. This role is required to administer, support, maintain our global infrastructure working autonomously and collaboratively with our local and global team members.

Day-to-day, you will:

• Take personal accountability for our products so that they remain available, secure, reliable and provide an excellent customer experience.
• Working with infrastructure and application support teams to troubleshoot/resolve issues across the Access Hosting estate.
• Ensure backup job monitoring is in place and functioning across the environment.
• Perform upgrades and patches where applicable across the backup infrastructure.
• Effectively manage your assigned tickets with timely and clear updates.
• Participate in high pressure incident scenarios, balancing technical resolution with timely service restoration.
• Carry out technical and operations standards and procedures, maintain and update technical documentation.
• Communicate with key stakeholders on planned changes.

Your skills and experiences might also include:

• Troubleshooting and problem solving in relate to backup infrastructure.
• Utilise all tools available to resolve majority of issues at the first instance.
• Strong server, storage, backup infrastructure, and networking infrastructure experience.
• Strong backup technology skills (Good understanding of Veeam, Cohesity, Veritas, Azure backup or similar).
• Experience with backup hardware, including tape libraries, disk-based storage, and cloud backup solutions.
• Strong command of Windows Server, Linux/Unix systems, and virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V, or cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Troubleshooting and problem solving in relate to backup and restore request.
• Basic understanding of VMware Virtualization domains (VMware vSphere / ESXi).
• Restoring VM’s/databases from backups as required.
• Hands on experience with Veeam and Cohesity highly regarded.
• Knowledge of backup-to-cloud solutions and object storage (e,g AWS S3, Azure) is an advantage.
• Proven track record in ability to work to agreed targets and SLAs.

NOTE: This is a 14-day month shift rotation role. You will be required to work on a rotation shift from the office 8am/8pm and 8pm/8am on a rotating basis with the flexibility to work from home as needed.
