Job summary

Unison Group in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia seeks an experienced AS400 COBOL developer to design, build, and support COBOL-based applications on the AS400/IBM i platform.

You will collaborate with business users and IT teams, manage ALDON deployments, and contribute to DevOps practices and SDLC governance, with emphasis on SQL/DB2 performance.

Qualifications

• 6–12 years of AS400 COBOL development experience.
• Banking or Payments domain experience preferred.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and support COBOL applications on the AS400/IBM i platform.
• Participate in application enhancements, bug fixes, and production support activities.
• Manage code promotion and deployment using ALDON.
• Work closely with business users, analysts, and technical teams to deliver solutions.
• Perform database-related activities involving DB2 and SQL.
• Support integration activities across enterprise systems and applications.
• Track and manage development tasks, defects, and releases through JIRA.
• Follow DevOps and SDLC best practices to ensure quality and timely delivery.
• Assist in root cause analysis and resolution of production incidents.
• Ensure compliance with organizational standards, security policies, and governance requirements.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience in COBOL development on AS400 / IBM i platform
• Experience working with EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) environments
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and release management processes
• Hands-on experience with ALDON for application lifecycle management and software deployment
• Good understanding of SQL and DB2 databases, including query writing and performance optimization
• Experience in application support, maintenance, enhancement, and troubleshooting activities
• Familiarity with JIRA for incident, change, and project tracking
• Exposure to banking, payments, or financial services applications is highly preferred
• Ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills
