Job summary

Oxydata Software Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced AS400 COBOL Developer for Banking & Payments in Kuala Lumpur. This onsite contract role involves designing, developing, and maintaining AS400 COBOL modules for banking applications.

The candidate should have at least 5 years of hands-on AS400 COBOL experience, strong SQL/DB2 skills, and a solid understanding of payments workflows. Collaboration with clients and stakeholders is essential.

• Bachelor's degree required in CS/IT/SE or related field.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on AS400 COBOL development experience.
• Strong COBOL/400 programming skills.
• Solid IBM AS400/IBM i knowledge.
• Proficient SQL and DB2 experience.
• Banking domain experience and payments processing knowledge.
• Experience across full SDLC and client-facing delivery.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

AS400 COBOL Developer - Banking & Payments

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, configure, test, and maintain AS400 COBOL software modules and application components.
• Analyse business and functional requirements to deliver effective technical solutions.
• Enhance and implement new functionalities in line with user and business requirements.
• Maintain and support existing AS400 applications within the banking and payments environment.
• Troubleshoot, analyse, and resolve application defects and production issues.
• Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirement analysis, technical design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Write and optimise COBOL programs, SQL queries, and DB2 database operations.
• Ensure software deliverables meet quality, security, performance, and coding standards.
• Follow established development methodologies and release processes.
• Collaborate with team members to deliver work within agreed timelines.
• Engage with clients and business stakeholders to understand requirements and provide technical services.
• Identify and elevate technical risks, dependencies, and issues as needed.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and solution design sessions.
• Maintain technical documentation, program specifications, and test evidence.

Requirements

Must-have:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on AS400 COBOL development experience.
• Strong programming experience in COBOL/400.
• Strong working knowledge of IBM AS400 / IBM i.
• Strong working knowledge of SQL.
• Strong working knowledge of DB2 database.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining AS400 applications.
• Experience working within the banking domain.
• Strong experience or functional understanding of payments systems and payment processing workflows.
• Experience across the complete software development and delivery lifecycle.
• Ability to analyse complex technical issues and deliver effective solutions.
• Experience working directly with clients and providing application development or support services.
• Strong understanding of software development standards, coding practices, testing, and release management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience using JIRA for task, incident, and project tracking.
• Experience using ALDON for AS400 source control, change management, and deployment.
• Knowledge of banking transaction processing, settlement, reconciliation, clearing, or payment messaging.
• Experience supporting high-volume and business-critical banking applications.
• Exposure to production support, incident management, root cause analysis, and change management.
• Familiarity with Agile or structured software development methodologies.
• Experience working in an application maintenance, managed services, or client-facing delivery environment.
