Job summary

Penang Automation Cluster Sdn. Bhd. (PAC) seeks a Chemical Process Engineer to develop, monitor and optimize surface treatment processes, including cleaning, degreasing, anodizing and electroplating, ensuring product quality and cost efficiency.

You will perform laboratory testing for wastewater treatment, manage chemical inventory, prepare technical reports, and collaborate with Production, QA, Engineering and Maintenance to drive continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or equivalent.
• Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply; candidates with 1–3 years of experience have an advantage.
• Knowledge of chemical process control, wastewater treatment and environmental regulations.
• Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment and analytical methods.
• Experience in anodizing, nickel plating and wastewater treatment processes is a plus.
• Good understanding of ISO 9001 and environmental management systems.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, monitor and optimize surface treatment processes, including cleaning, degreasing, anodizing, and electroplating.
• Perform laboratory testing and analysis for wastewater treatment to ensure compliance with environmental requirements.
• Conduct routine chemical analysis and process monitoring for anodizing and nickel plating operations.
• Monitor wastewater treatment system performance and chemical consumption to ensure efficient operation and cost control.
• Manage chemical inventory and ensure adequate stock levels of production and wastewater treatment chemicals.
• Prepare technical reports, process documentation, work instructions and records related to surface treatment processes.
• Conduct chemical analysis and troubleshooting to resolve process-related issues and improve yield.
• Evaluate and introduce new chemicals, technologies and process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce operating costs.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations relating to chemical handling, waste treatment and wastewater discharge.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering and Maintenance teams to support daily operations and continuous improvement activities.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues.
• Support customer requirements, audits and certification activities related to surface treatment processes.
• Provide technical guidance and training to production personnel on chemical process control and best practices.

Job Requirements :

Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or equivalent.

Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply. Candidates with 1–3 years of working experience in surface treatment, anodizing, electroplating, nickel plating or metal finishing industry will have an added advantage.

Knowledge of chemical process control, wastewater treatment and environmental regulations.

Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment and analytical methods is preferred.

Experience in anodizing, nickel plating and wastewater treatment processes will be an added advantage.

Knowledge of environmental regulations and chemical handling requirements.

Good understanding of ISO 9001 and environmental management systems.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Willing to work in a manufacturing environment and support continuous improvement initiatives.
