Job summary

Raffles University is seeking a Café Cook to support daily food preparation and service within a fast-paced campus café. You will assist with mise en place, cook, reheat, plate, and ensure meals meet established recipes and portion standards.

The role requires basic cooking, food hygiene knowledge, and teamwork. Applicants should be prepared to assist across café operations and maintain high cleanliness standards during service hours.

Qualifications

• Minimum SKM3, DKM4, Diploma Culinary Arts, or equivalent is preferred.
• Candidates with kitchen, café, restaurant, hotel, catering, or food service experience have an advantage.
• Food-handling certification or other food safety qualification is preferred.
• Valid typhoid vaccination as required under food handling requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily preparation of ingredients, including washing, cutting, portioning, marinating, and other basic mise en place.
• Carry out basic cooking, reheating, food assembly, and plating according to established recipes, portion sizes, and instructions.
• Assist in preparing café menu items and ensure food is prepared in a timely manner during operating hours.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, food preparation areas, equipment, utensils, workstations, storage areas, and other assigned areas.
• Follow established food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and occupational safety procedures at all times.
• Assist with receiving, checking, storing, labelling, and arranging ingredients and supplies according to proper storage practices.
• Assist with stock checks, inventory counting, stock rotation, and monitoring expiry dates using FIFO/FEFO practices where applicable.
• Support portion control and minimise food wastage during preparation and production.
• Assist in opening and closing of the kitchen, including preparation of workstations, cleaning, storage, and equipment checks.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any equipment defects, maintenance issues, shortages, or safety concerns to the Person-in-Charge.
• Assist with cleaning dishes, utensils, equipment, and kitchen areas when required to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Support café operations, institutional events, catering activities, training activities, or other food-related functions when required.
• Work collaboratively with the Café Manager, café team, culinary staff, part-time staff, and other relevant departments.
• Perform other reasonable kitchen and operational duties assigned by the supervisor or management.
