The Business Development & External Relations Executive will support the Association's business development and external relations functions, focusing on Malaysia-China business cooperation, corporate partnerships, sponsorships, trade promotion and stakeholder engagement.
The role requires a proactive and commercially minded individual who can identify opportunities, develop corporate and institutional relationships, prepare proposals, support negotiations and convert business leads into tangible partnerships and outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Identify and develop business and partnership opportunities supporting Malaysia-China trade, investment and economic cooperation.
- Proactively approach potential corporate clients, strategic partners and sponsors, and build long-term professional relationships.
- Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies, embassies and consulates, chambers of commerce, trade associations, enterprises, universities, professional institutions and media.
- Develop corporate partnerships and sponsorship opportunities, including partnership models, sponsorship packages and value propositions.
- Maintain an active business pipeline from initial contact and meetings through proposal development, negotiation and partnership confirmation.
- Connect Malaysian and Chinese enterprises with relevant government, industry, institutional and commercial resources.
- Develop corporate partnerships and sponsorships for forums, business delegations, cultural exchange and trade promotion programmes.
- Prepare business and sponsorship proposals, presentations, briefing notes, official correspondence and cooperation documents.
- Participate in business discussions and follow-up relating to MoUs, strategic partnerships, sponsorships and commercial cooperation.
- Conduct market, industry, company and policy research to identify potential clients, partners and new business opportunities.
- Maintain stakeholder and corporate databases, business leads and partnership records, and regularly report business development progress.
- Represent the Association at business meetings, forums, official functions and networking activities when required.
- Perform other business development and external relations duties as assigned by management.
About you
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, International Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Economics, International Relations, or related fields.
- At least 2–3 years of relevant experience in business development, corporate partnerships, sponsorship, external affairs, trade promotion, public relations, media sales, advertising, or related fields.
- Proven ability to develop new clients, partnerships, and business opportunities and convert leads into tangible outcomes.
- Good understanding of the Malaysian business environment. Experience with government agencies, chambers of commerce, trade associations, corporations, or Malaysia-China-related organisations will be an advantage.
- Existing corporate, business association, or institutional networks in Malaysia or China will be an added advantage.
- Strong communication, negotiation, networking, presentation, and relationship management skills.
- Able to independently prepare professional business proposals, sponsorship proposals, and presentations.
- Good oral and written proficiency in English and Chinese. Bahasa Malaysia will be an added advantage.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, commercially minded, and results-oriented, with the confidence to engage corporate executives and institutional decision-makers.
- Able to work independently and willing to travel or work flexible hours when required.
Preferred Profile
- This is a business development and external relations position, rather than an administrative or event execution role.
- Candidates with experience or networks in corporate business development, sponsorship, brand partnerships, advertising, media, trade promotion, government relations, chambers of commerce, or Malaysia-China business cooperation will be particularly advantageous.
