Job summary

Rompin Integrated Pineapple Industries Sdn Bhd (RIPI) seeks a Boiler Operator to operate and monitor industrial steam boilers, ensuring safe and compliant performance. You will perform routine testing, maintenance tasks, and assist in inspections under the guidance of the team leader.

The role requires a valid Certificate of Competency for Steam Boiler Operator Grade 2, minimum SPM or equivalent, and 2–3 years of hands-on boiler experience in hot industrial environments.

Qualifications

Job description

Ensure the steam boiler operates strictly within the Authorized Safe Working Pressure (ASWP) set by JKKP.

Remain physically present in the boiler house during operation shifts. Strictly adhere to DOSH rules against leaving the boiler unattended.

Implement formal shift handovers by completing and counter-signing the Boiler Log Book. Review previous shift records for abnormalities, leaks, or component failures before taking over.

Conduct mandatory routine testing of the water gauge glass to verify accurate water levels, ensuring preventing dangerous low-water or high-water states.

Execute scheduled bottom blowdowns to control Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), clear out sludge/mud accumulations, and maintain water chemistry.

Constantly monitor safety valves, pressure gauges, and automated cut-off switches to ensure they are fully operational and unhindered.

Monitor and log feed water parameters (softener, deaerator, chemical dosing) to actively prevent scale scaling or internal corrosion.

Inspect fuel supply lines, burner systems, feed water pumps, and essential piping fixtures daily for any visible structural defects or steam leaks.

Assist the Management in preparing the boiler unit for mandatory JKKP periodical statutory inspections (every 15 months), including complete internal cool-down, washing, tube cleaning, and dismantling fittings for structural validation.

Execute immediate, safe emergency shutdown procedures in the event of major equipment failures, sudden loss of water level, or critical safety valve malfunctions.

Immediately report any dangerous occurrences, unexpected structural damage, or major component failures to management for mandatory DOSH notification.

Conduct daily check on machinery and equipment used in packing and processing.

Assist in carrying out schedule maintenance activities to prevent equipment failure.

Lubricate machinery, replace filter, and perform basic cleaning task.

Assist in diagnosing and resolving minor mechanical or electrical issues under the supervision of team leader.

Use basic tools to make temporary repairs and keep the equipment running smoothly.

Keep accurate record of maintenance activities, including daily logs and reports on equipment performance.

Assist tracking spare parts usage and maintain an inventory of essential maintenance supplies.

Ensure compliance with safety protocols during activities.

Follow the procedures related to food safety standards (eg. GlobalGAP) when working in food handling areas.

Assist in installation of new machinery of equipment under the guidance of the team leader.

Assist in configuring machines to meet production requirements.

Provide immediate support in case of equipment failure during operation.

Coordinate with the operation team to minimize downtime and production loss.

Participant in maintenance meeting to discuss challenges and solutions

Assist in simple electrical repair such as replacing fuses or fixing wiring issues.

Perform basic mechanical task such as tightening bolt or replacing worn out parts.

Operate and monitor boiler systems to ensure they are running efficiently and safely.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Certification: Must possess a valid Certificate of Competency as a Steam Boiler Operator Grade 2 (Perakuan Kebaikan Penjaga Dandang Gred 2) issued by JKKP/DOSH Malaysia.

Education: Minimum SPM or equivalent technical/vocational certification.

Experience: Minimum 2 or 3 years of hands‑on experience operating industrial steam boilers (Fire Tube or Water Tube setups).

Physical Fitness: Physically fit, highly alert, and comfortable working in hot, industrial plant environments.

Core Competency: Thorough knowledge of the Factories and Machinery (Person-In-Charge) Regulations and basic chemical water-testing methods.
