Job summary

Filtermation (Mfg) Sdn Bhd is seeking an Assistant Production Manager to drive the new EPP production line from commissioning through mass production. You will support the Production Manager in running a plastic injection moulding and tooling operation, lead a capable line team, and ensure on-time delivery with quality standards.

• Diploma or degree in mechanical, manufacturing, polymer or plastics engineering.
• At least 5 years in plastic injection moulding or foam moulding production, with at least 2 years as an executive or assistant manager.
• Experience in commissioning or starting up a new production line or machines.
• Hands-on knowledge of moulds: reading drawings, trials, and defect solving.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead commissioning of the EPP production line, including installation checks, trials, first-article approval and handover to production.
• Write the EPP process settings, SOPs and quality checks before mass production starts.
• Recruit, train and set up the EPP line team and shift pattern.
• Track commissioning issues with the equipment supplier, Tooling, Maintenance and Quality until each is closed.
• Lead the morning meeting, assign owners and due dates, and monitor daily output against plan.
• Plan manpower across shifts and overtime to meet priorities and maintain OEE/downtime records.
• Oversee mould repairs and improvements, support new mould projects with outside mould makers and ensure spare parts stock.
• Follow up quality issues on injection moulding, coordinate with Maintenance on downtime and EPP commissioning, and sustain 5S on the floor.
• Lead and develop supervisors and technicians, and report weekly to the Production Manager.

Job description

The Assistant Production Manager gets the new EPP (expanded polypropylene) production line commissioned and running, and supports the Production Manager in running plastic Injection Moulding plant and Tooling day to day. Tooling repairs and improves moulds in-house and manages new moulds made by outside mould makers.

Key responsibilities

EPP Line Commissioning:
Plan and lead the commissioning of the EPP production line: installation checks, machine and mould trials, first-article approval and handover to production. Write the EPP process settings, work instructions (standard operating procedures, SOPs) and quality checks before mass production starts. Recruit, train and set up the EPP line team and shift pattern. Track commissioning issues with the equipment supplier, Tooling, Maintenance and Quality until each is closed.

Injection Moulding Production:
Run the morning meeting when the Production Manager is away, and make sure every job has an owner and a due date. Follow up daily output against plan, machine downtime and late parts, and act on the causes. Plan manpower across shifts and overtime to meet the planner's priorities. Keep the machine performance (Overall Equipment Effectiveness, OEE) and downtime records correct and on time.

Tooling:
Follow up mould repairs and improvements so machines are back in production on time. Support new mould projects with outside mould makers: design review, mould trials (T0, T1, T2) and sample approval. Make sure spare parts for frequently run moulds are kept in stock.

Quality, Maintenance, 5S & Cost Tracking:
Follow up quality issues on Injection Moulding production day to day, alongside the EPP process settings and quality checks written during commissioning. Coordinate with Maintenance on machine downtime, and work with Maintenance during EPP commissioning. Start the new EPP line with 5S in place, and keep 5S up on the floor. Support the Production Manager on cost by tracking overtime and scrap.

People, Safety & Reporting:
Lead and develop supervisors and technicians, and keep work safe and in line with SOPs. Report progress, problems and actions to the Production Manager weekly.

About you

Diploma or degree in mechanical, manufacturing, polymer or plastics engineering, or a related field

At least 5 years in plastic injection moulding or foam moulding production, with at least 2 years as an executive or assistant manager

Has taken part in commissioning or starting up a new production line or new machines, from installation to mass production

Hands-on knowledge of moulds: reading mould and part drawings, following mould trials and solving moulding defects

Has led a production team across shifts, including manpower planning

Uses production data: output against plan, downtime and OEE, in Excel or a production system

Speaks and writes Bahasa Melayu and English well enough to run meetings and write reports
