Job summary

Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhad is seeking an Assistant Manager to lead Takaful / Shariah Audit activities, delivering independent assurance on governance, risk and controls. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Shariah, Islamic Finance, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or a related field.
• A relevant professional qualification such as CIFP, CPSA, CIA or equivalent is an advantage.
• At least 4 years of relevant experience in internal audit, Shariah audit, Shariah compliance, Islamic finance or Takaful.
• Experience independently managing audit assignments and engaging management stakeholders.
• Sound knowledge of Shariah principles applicable to muamalat, Islamic finance and Takaful operations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analytics tools.

Job description

The Assistant Manager - Takaful / Shariah Audit supports the delivery of independent and objective assurance over Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Berhad, including Shariah governance, operational processes and internal controls. The role plans and executes assigned audits, evaluates key risks and controls, prepares clear audit reports, follows up agreed actions, and provides practical recommendations that strengthen governance and business processes. The position reports functionally and administratively to the Chief Internal Auditor and works closely with the Acting Head, Shariah Audit for day-to-day Shariah audit coordination.

Key responsibilities

Plan and execute Takaful operational and Shariah audit assignments in accordance with the approved audit plan and Internal Audit methodology, including developing audit objectives and programmes, performing walkthroughs and testing, assessing Shariah and operational risks, maintaining complete working papers, and escalating significant matters promptly. Assist in Conventional Audits as well.

Analyse audit results and prepare clear, balanced and evidence-based audit reports. Discuss observations, root causes, risk implications and practical remedial actions with relevant management, the Acting Head, Shariah Audit and the Chief Internal Auditor. Support reporting to the Shariah Committee and Audit Committee as required.

Monitor and validate management actions arising from audit findings. Assess whether completed actions adequately address the identified risk, maintain accurate follow-up records, and escalation delays or insufficient remediation.

Support the annual risk assessment, audit planning and periodic reporting process, including maintenance of the Shariah audit universe, Shariah risk register and relevant management information.

Contribute to continuous improvement of audit practices, data analytics and team knowledge sharing, and perform other responsibilities assigned by the Chief Internal Auditor to meet operational or regulatory requirements.

About you

Bachelor's degree in Shariah, Islamic Finance, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or a related field.

A relevant professional qualification or certification, such as Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP), Certified Professional Shariah Auditor (CPSA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or an equivalent credential, is an advantage.

At least 4 years of relevant experience in internal audit, external audit, Shariah audit, Shariah compliance, Islamic finance, insurance or Takaful.

Experience independently managing audit assignments and engaging management stakeholders is preferred.

Sound knowledge of Shariah principles applicable to muamalat, Islamic finance and Takaful operations.

Practical internal or external audit experience, including risk assessment, control evaluation, audit testing and report writing.

Ability to interpret relevant Shariah requirements, regulatory expectations, policies and operational procedures.

Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills in English; Bahasa Malaysia capability is beneficial.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to use audit tools and data analytics techniques.

Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines and work constructively with stakeholders.
