Job summary

Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhad is seeking a senior analytics professional to join the Strategy & Analytics team. The role translates business data into actionable insights that support management decisions and improve business performance.

The position requires developing analytical solutions, dashboards and decision-support products, and partnering with stakeholders to drive growth, profitability, client outcomes, persistency and operational effectiveness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a quantitative discipline.
• Certification in analytics or BI is a plus.
• At least 3 years of data/analytics experience.
• Experience with large datasets and BI dashboards.
• Proficiency in SQL and analytics tools (Python/R/SAS).
• Ability to translate business questions into structured analyses.

Job description

This position is a senior analytical role within the Strategy & Analytics team, responsible for translating business data into actionable insights that support management decisions and improve business performance.

The role conducts performance analysis, identifies underlying business drivers, risks and opportunities, and develops analytical solutions to support growth, profitability, sales productivity, client outcomes, persistency, collection and operational effectiveness.

The position works closely with business stakeholders to translate business questions into structured analysis, recommend specific interventions, track implementation and measure outcomes. The job holder is expected to independently manage assigned analyses and analytical workstreams, constructively challenge assumptions and communicate findings clearly to management and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

1. Analyse business performance and identify key drivers and opportunities – Analyse business performance across relevant channels, products, client segments and operational processes. Identify trends, performance gaps and underlying drivers, and translate the findings into clear business implications and recommended management actions.

2. Develop analytical solutions and decision-support products – Develop and maintain analytical solutions, dashboards and decision-support products that provide reliable performance visibility, leading indicators, prioritisation and actionable insights. Ensure analytical outputs are accurate, relevant and aligned with agreed business definitions.

3. Partner with stakeholders to solve business problems – Work with business stakeholders to define analytical requirements and translate business questions into structured analyses. Determine the appropriate data, analytical approach and measures, and communicate findings and recommendations in a clear and commercially relevant manner.

4. Prepare, transform and validate data for analysis – Extract, integrate, cleanse, transform and validate data from relevant sources. Develop meaningful analytical variables and perform appropriate data-quality checks. Clearly identify and communicate any data limitations, inconsistencies or assumptions that may affect the analysis.

5. Support business interventions and measure outcomes – Support the design, implementation and measurement of business interventions, including client targeting, sales conversion, cross-sell, retention, persistency, collection and operational improvement initiatives. Track whether agreed actions are completed and whether the intended business outcomes are achieved.

6. Improve the efficiency and scalability of analytical work – Automate recurring analysis and reporting, standardise analytical approaches and develop reusable datasets, business logic and analytical components. Maintain clear documentation to improve the consistency, efficiency and scalability of analytical delivery.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Actuarial Science, Business Analytics or another relevant quantitative discipline.

Relevant professional certification in analytics, data science or business intelligence would be an advantage.

At least three years of relevant experience in data analysis, business analytics, business intelligence or a related field.

Hands-on experience in analysing large and complex datasets using relevant analytical tools.

Experience in developing business intelligence dashboards or analytical solutions using Power BI, Tableau or equivalent tools.

Experience in independently managing analytical assignments or small analytical workstreams.

Experience in financial services, insurance, distribution analytics, client analytics or operational analytics would be an advantage.

Experience in supporting business interventions and measuring their outcomes would be an advantage.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business questions into structured analysis and actionable recommendations.

Proficient in data extraction, manipulation and analysis using Structured Query Language and relevant analytical tools such as Python, R or SAS.

Ability to interpret analytical findings within the business context and explain the commercial, client or operational implications.

Able to independently manage analytical assignments, engage stakeholders and deliver quality work within agreed timelines.

Strong attention to detail, data integrity and documentation.

Collaborative and able to work effectively with stakeholders across different functions and levels.

Inquisitive and able to constructively challenge assumptions, investigate performance drivers and identify improvement opportunities.
