Manulife Financial Corporation seeks a seasoned Shariah governance professional to strengthen Shariah oversight across Takaful products and operations. You will engage with risk, governance and regional/global stakeholders to ensure Shariah-aligned practices and regulatory compliance.
The role involves advisory support, governance framework development and collaboration with Shariah Advisors and Boards, with exposure to strategic initiatives and management interactions.
Join Manulife’s growing Takaful business and play a key role in strengthening Shariah governance, risk management, and compliance oversight. This is a unique opportunity to work across business, risk, compliance, and governance functions to ensure that Takaful products and operations are conducted in accordance with Shariah principles and regulatory expectations. The successful candidate will contribute to the sustainable growth of the Takaful business through practical advisory support, robust governance frameworks, and effective stakeholder engagement. Lead and perform Shariah compliance reviews on Takaful products, operational processes, customer documentation, contracts, and business initiatives.
Support the identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of Shariah non-compliance risks across the Takaful business.
Provide day-to-day Shariah advisory support to business and control functions on operational, product, legal, investment, distribution, and customer-related matters.
Conduct Shariah research, prepare papers and recommendations for management and the Shariah Advisor, and support Shariah governance activities.
Support the preparation of Shariah-related updates and reports for Management, Board, and governance forums, and collaborate with regional and global stakeholders on Shariah risk and compliance matters where required.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Shariah research, Shariah advisory, Shariah compliance review, Shariah risk management, Takaful or Islamic finance.
Experience in Takaful, Islamic banking, Islamic capital markets, Shariah governance, compliance, risk management or regulatory advisory would be preferred.
Experience working with Shariah Advisors, Shariah Committees or Shariah Supervisory Boards would be an added advantage.
Experience in preparing Shariah papers, issue papers, compliance review reports, risk reports, management updates or Board-level materials would be an added advantage.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Shariah Law, Usul al-Fiqh, Islamic Finance, or related field.
Professional certification in Islamic finance, Takaful, Shariah advisory, risk management or compliance would be an added advantage.
Familiarity with Wakalah, Mudharabah, Tabarru’, Qard, surplus management, investment screening and other Takaful-related concepts.
