Job summary

Sulzer in Malaysia is seeking a Senior Application Engineer to support sales teams with technical guidance and accurate product configurations and proposals. You will work with regional offices and HQ to prepare tender documentation and cost estimates while ensuring requirements align with company capabilities.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, and travel as needed across APAC.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field
• 1–3 years in technical sales or back-office sales in oil & gas / chemical process / petrochemical / fine chemical / oleochemical industries
• Willingness to travel frequently, APAC region
• Excellent in English (oral & written); Mandarin preferred
• Proficient in MS Office; knowledge of PRO/II or ASPEN advantageous

Responsibilities

• Prepare and co-ordinate technical and commercial proposal activities with Regional Offices and Local Headquarters
• Prepare price calculation and tender documentation
• Work closely with cross-functional departments and suppliers to prepare cost estimates for tenders
• Ensure specifications offered to customer align with company capabilities

About the role

Job Summary
The Sr. Application Engineer is responsible for supporting sales teams by providing technical advice and preparing accurate product configurations and proposals.
This job profile is intended for experienced professionals who apply practical knowledge of a job area and work independently with general supervision.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

• Prepare and co-ordinate technical and commercial proposal activities with Regional Offices and Local Headquarters
• Prepare price calculation and tender documentation
• Work closely with cross-functional departments (process design & technology, project management, shipping/logistic, inter-company) and suppliers/sub-contractors to prepare cost estimates for tenders
• Ensure that the specifications offered to the customer are within the capability and capacity of the company
• Ensure that the customers’ requirements are adequately conveyed and properly reflected in proposal.
• Any other duties that are assigned by superior.

Education requirements:

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field

Job experience:

• 1 - 3 years’ experience in technical sales or back office sales within the oil & gas / chemical process / petrochemical / fine chemical / oleochemical industries.
• Candidates with experience in plant operation and DCS control practices will be advantageous.

Knowledge requirements (professional, technical, language and other requirements):

• Excellent in both oral & written English. Competency in Mandarin Chinese language skills are preferred.
• Fair knowledge of chemical separation processes knowledge
• Require business travel, particularly in the APAC region.
• Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software such as Word / Excel / PowerPoint.
• Proficiency in use of simulation software such as PRO/II or ASPEN will be advantageous.
