Job summary

Curtin University Malaysia is seeking an Academic Skills Advisor to enhance students’ academic language and learning skills. You will develop and deliver programs for individual and group student support, collaborating with academics and support staff to improve retention and success.

The role emphasizes designing modules, creating resources, and delivering interventions while contributing to program evaluation and scholarly activity within the Office of Learning and Teaching.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in TESL/TESOL with relevant experience; PhD desirable.
• Recent teaching or instructional experience engaging diverse students to achieve learning outcomes in English language support.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including writing and presentation abilities.
• Understanding of learning competencies essential for university study success.
• Ability to collaborate, coordinate with others, and contribute to a collegial environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and deliver language support modules to develop students’ academic language and learning skills.
• Develop and evaluate online and print resources for on- and off-campus students.
• Provide individual consultations and collaborate with academics to support at‑risk students and address academic integrity.
• Manage calendars, promote and book venues for learning support modules.
• Administer surveys to measure student satisfaction with learning modules.
• Coordinate and facilitate additional learning support programmes.
• Build partnerships with Curtin’s academic staff and student support services.
• Collect and analyze data related to the programs.
• Lead related projects and events by the Office of Learning and Teaching.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and scholarly activities to inform practice.
