Petco's Infrastructure Operations & Engineering team is seeking a senior Windows Software Engineer to support enterprise Windows server infrastructure. This IC role requires hands-on expertise with Windows Server, Active Directory, PowerShell automation, virtualization, patch management, and enterprise infrastructure operations.

Responsabilidades

• Administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and engineer Windows Server environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
• Manage virtual machine provisioning, migration, lifecycle, and decommissioning across VMware, Nutanix AHV, GCP, and AWS.
• Support server standards, provisioning processes, infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
• Troubleshoot complex server and infrastructure issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions.
• Coordinate with application, database, network, storage, cloud, and security teams to resolve cross-platform issues.
• Take ownership of incidents and escalations through diagnosis, coordination, resolution, and documentation.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
• Participate in disaster recovery testing, maintenance windows, and on-call support.

Position Summary

Petco's Infrastructure Operations & Engineering team is seeking an experienced Windows Software Engineer to support and engineer our enterprise Windows server infrastructure. This is a senior-level individual contributor role requiring strong hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, PowerShell automation, virtualization, patch management, and enterprise infrastructure operations. The ideal candidate will be able to independently troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, drive technical work through completion, and collaborate across infrastructure, security, cloud, database, network, storage, and application teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and engineer Windows Server environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
• Manage virtual machine provisioning, migration, lifecycle, and decommissioning across VMware, Nutanix AHV, GCP, and AWS.
• Support server standards, provisioning processes, infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
• Troubleshoot complex server and infrastructure issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions.
• Coordinate with application, database, network, storage, cloud, and security teams to resolve cross-platform issues.

Active Directory & Microsoft Services (20%)

• Administer and troubleshoot Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, security groups, service accounts, and domain controllers.
• Support Active Directory lifecycle activities, including upgrades, migrations, maintenance, and retirement.
• Troubleshoot authentication, replication, DNS, and Group Policy issues.
• Support enterprise certificate services and PKI-related activities when required.

Automation, Security & Patch Management (25%)

• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for administration, automation, reporting, and operational support.
• Identify opportunities to reduce manual work and improve infrastructure consistency through automation.
• Support Windows Server patching using Tanium and related enterprise tools.
• Remediate vulnerabilities and security findings within defined SLAs.
• Support infrastructure security tools such as CrowdStrike and Delinea Secret Server.
• Prepare and execute production infrastructure changes following established change management processes.

Operational Support (15%)

• Take ownership of incidents and escalations through diagnosis, coordination, resolution, and documentation.
• Support monitoring and observability using platforms such as Datadog.
• Manage ITSM tickets and engineering work through Jira Service Management.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
• Participate in disaster recovery testing, maintenance windows, and on-call support.

Key Distinctions of Job Level

This is a senior-level individual contributor role expected to operate with limited supervision. The engineer should be able to independently investigate complex technical issues, recommend solutions, identify risks and dependencies, and drive assigned work through implementation and validation.

Type of supervision received:

Limited supervision — works independently within defined priorities, with guidance from Wintel management and leads as needed.

Type of supervision given:

None — individual contributor role.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise Windows Server environments.
• Strong experience with Windows Server and Microsoft Active Directory.
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
• Experience with Group Policy, DNS, authentication, and Active Directory troubleshooting.
• Experience with VMware vSphere and/or Nutanix AHV.
• Experience with enterprise patch management and vulnerability remediation.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across Windows and related infrastructure technologies.
• Experience with ITSM and production change management processes.
• Ability to independently manage complex technical work with limited supervision.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to participate in on-call support and after-hours maintenance when required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Tanium, CrowdStrike, Delinea Secret Server, and/or Datadog.
• Experience supporting Windows workloads in GCP and/or AWS.
• Experience with Microsoft PKI and certificate services.
• Familiarity with RADIUS, NPS, LDAP, or Kerberos.
• Familiarity with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Exposure to CI/CD and infrastructure automation platforms such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
• Experience with infrastructure migrations, cloud initiatives, or data center modernization.
• Relevant Microsoft, cloud, virtualization, or infrastructure certifications.
