Job summary

AthenaWorks LLC in Mexico is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to mature our lakehouse and own critical data systems. You will handle high-throughput streaming ingestion, Iceberg table design on S3, and curated Redshift models powering reporting.

You’ll anchor the team technically, design end-to-end solutions, and raise engineering standards. This hands-on role requires ownership from design through production, with a focus on reliability, cost control, and scalable architecture in a small,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data engineering experience with high-volume systems.
• Strong JVM experience with production services (read/write/debug).
• Kotlin experience strongly preferred for streaming apps.
• Hands-on with streaming ingestion technologies (Kinesis/Firehose/Kafka).
• Experience with table formats on object storage (Iceberg/Datalake format).
• Solid SQL skills and data warehouse modeling (Redshift/Snowflake/BigQuery).
• Proficiency in Python for tooling and scripting.
• Airflow experience for data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate streaming data pipelines (Kinesis/Firehose) for high-volume ad traffic.
• Own and evolve the S3+Iceberg raw data layer: table design, partitioning, schema evolution.
• Build and maintain curated aggregate and fact tables in Redshift for reporting.
• Contribute to Kotlin-based event registration and streaming applications.
• Improve reliability, observability, and data quality across the pipeline.
• Make architectural recommendations as we scale the lakehouse.
• Partner with analysts to align reporting needs with the curated layer.
• Mentor engineers on data practices in a small, high-leverage team.
