Athenaworks is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to mature our lakehouse architecture and own critical data systems end-to-end. You will design streaming ingestion, Iceberg table design on S3, and curated Redshift models for analytics, while mentoring the team to raise data engineering practices.

Ideal candidates excel in Kotlin/Java, SQL and Python, with hands-on AWS experience and a track record of delivering reliable, cost-conscious data pipelines in a small, high-skill team.

Formación

• 5+ years of data engineering experience with high-volume data systems.
• Strong JVM experience (Java and/or Kotlin) for production services.
• Kotlin experience strongly preferred for streaming apps.
• Hands-on with streaming ingestion technologies (Kinesis, Kafka, Firehose).
• Experience with table formats on object storage (Iceberg, Delta Lake, Hudi).
• Solid SQL skills for data warehouse models (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery).
• Proficiency in Python for tooling and scripting.
• Hands-on with Apache Airflow for pipelines.
• Comfort with AWS (S3, IAM, Kinesis/Firehose/Redshift).
• Track record of owning systems in production with a focus on monitoring and cost.
• Strong communication and ability to work independently on a small team.

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and operate streaming data pipelines (Kinesis, Firehose).
• Own and evolve S3 + Iceberg raw data layer including partitioning and cost tuning.
• Build and maintain curated aggregates and fact tables in Redshift.
• Contribute to Kotlin-based event registration and streaming apps.
• Improve reliability, observability, and data quality across the pipeline.
• Make architectural recommendations as the lakehouse scales.
• Collaborate with analysts to meet reporting needs.
• Mentor engineers and raise data engineering practices on a small team.
