Elsevier is seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer I to join our global technology team. The role focuses on backend development, building scalable RESTful services with Java and Spring Boot, and delivering production-ready software.

You will collaborate with product and QA, own features end-to-end, and contribute to architectural decisions while mentoring junior engineers. This hybrid role offers opportunities to impact science and healthcare through robust infrastructure.

Formación

• 4–7 years of software engineering experience with backend focus.
• Experience building scalable RESTful services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Relational databases experience (PostgreSQL), data modeling, and basic query optimization.
• Ability to own features end-to-end from design through deployment and production support.
• Experience working across multiple services within distributed architectures.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; able to resolve issues across services.
• Experience mentoring juniors and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and own backend services across one or more delivery lanes within Learning Products (Courseware, Sherpath, etc.).
• Drive features end-to-end with independence from requirements to production readiness.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, and QA to translate business needs into scalable solutions.
• Contribute to system and service design, promoting reuse and alignment with platform architecture.
• Deliver high-quality software that meets readiness criteria and production stability.
• Build and maintain robust APIs and data models for performance and reliability.
• Ensure observability with logging, monitoring, and alerting.
• Support SDLC practices including CI/CD, code quality, and defect prevention.
• Mentor junior engineers and support team growth.
• Promote ownership, accountability, and outcome-based delivery.
