Job summary

Howard Financial is seeking a Senior Accountant with hands-on real estate accounting experience to own the books for a portfolio of Development & Real Estate clients. You’ll run month-end closes, keep project and property financials accurate, and serve as the primary accounting contact for clients.

Remote, EST time zone. Expect collaboration with US real estate developers and investors, a modern automation stack, and growth toward Controller roles as Howard expands. Fluent English required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in real estate (development, property management, or investment entities).
• Solid knowledge of US GAAP and full-cycle accounting from transactions to financial statements.
• Experience with multi-entity books, intercompany activity, and consolidations.
• Hands-on CIP, cost capitalization, fixed assets, and debt accounting.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and/or a real estate platform (Yardi, AppFolio, MRI, or Sage Intacct).
• Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills; Advanced English for daily client communication.
• Organized, deadline-driven, and able to manage several clients remotely.

Responsibilities

• Own the full month-end and year-end close for multiple real estate entities.
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and reconciliations.
• Track development projects: CIP, cost capitalization, job costing, and placing assets in service.
• Maintain fixed asset schedules, depreciation, loans, draws, and debt covenants.
• Account for rental revenue, tenant receivables, and CAM reconciliations where applicable.
• Prepare financial statements and reporting packages: balance sheet, P&L, cash flow, and project cost reports.
• Support investor reporting, capital contributions, and distributions.
• Coordinate with external CPAs on audits, tax filings, and 1099s.
• Review junior staff work and help improve close processes and documentation.
• Communicate directly with clients in English, explaining numbers clearly.
