Job summary

Volunteers of America Colorado is seeking a Relief Residential Advocate for the Durango, CO shelter program. The role focuses on safeguarding residents’ emotional and physical well-being, crisis intervention, and supervising volunteers in daily operations.

The position requires two years of experience in human services and the ability to provide trauma-informed care, intake interviews, and daily coordination of client needs.

Qualifications

• Two years experience in human services or related area.
• Direct experience with relevant population preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide protection of residents' emotional and physical well-being within program guidelines.
• Assist with house maintenance, linen supply, chore schedules, bed checks, curfews, and fire drill readiness.
• Provide weekly individual counseling, help clients identify goals and implement plans.
• Deliver trauma-informed care and crisis intervention services.
• Conduct primary intake interviews, document appropriately, determine admission suitability.
• Answer crisis lines and maintain awareness of referral resources; record-keeping.
• Attend weekly staff meetings and training; consult with Program Manager.
• Observe client behavior and document in case notes; maintain shift notes and session notes.
• Ensure facility is safe, comfortable, and well-maintained; provide direct crisis intervention.
• Lead house and group sessions; supervise and train new staff and volunteers.
• Give educational presentations to community groups; attend professional meetings; conduct on-site tours.
• Maintain reporting and paperwork; comply with Social Work Code of Ethics.
• Incorporate guest feedback into program evaluation and improvement initiatives.
• Participate in on-call rotation with Advocates, Senior Managers and Senior Director.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
