Vertiv in Monterrey, Mexico is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the release of CRAC products within a cross-functional development group.

Responsibilities include designing new CRAC hardware, performing thermal and fluid calculations, and collaborating with electrical, process, and production teams to meet cost and performance targets; occasional CFD/FEA work and performance testing are also expected.

Formación

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in new product development.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics and P&ID.
  • Understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, CREO 4.0 or higher.

Responsabilidades

  • Design new CRAC products.
  • Collaborate across the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, process engineering, as well as production and offering teams.
  • Performs a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods to verify design requirements, which may include stress calculations, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics
  • Develops solutions to complex problems where little or no precedence exists - the use of ingenuity and creativity is regularly required
  • Participate in identification of cost reduction opportunities and in the design and development of cost reduction changes
  • Implement product changes to solve field issues, support service department
  • Component verification
  • Occasional use of CFD/FEA software
  • Work with software team to develop and verify CRAC system controls
  • Plan and oversee performance testing (ASHRE/AHRI) then utilize the results to validate designs, control, and analytical models
  • Create and validate analytical performance models

Job Description

Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the release of new products; will work in a cross-functional development group; manage a variety of tasks and activities are required in this dynamic environment; and solve complex problems where no precedence exists.


Responsibilities


  • Design new computer room air conditioning (CRAC) products

  • Collaboration across the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, process engineering, as well as production and offering teams. Work with these teams for design reviews, meeting cost metrics, and brainstorming around customer pain points.

  • Performs a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods to verify design requirements, which may include stress calculations, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics

  • Develops solutions to complex problems where little or no precedence exists - the use of ingenuity and creativity is regularly required

  • Participate in identification of cost reduction opportunities and in the design and development of cost reduction changes

  • Implement product changes to solve field issues, support service department

  • Component verification


Extended Responsibilities

Basic Requirements


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or directly related degree

  • 1-2 years of career experience in new product development as an individual contributor

  • Understand electrical schematic and pneumatic drawings (P&ID)

  • Understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics

  • Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment independently and as a member of a dynamic team; offer and receive constructive criticism

  • Demonstrated history of delivering quality products to market with understanding and respect for phases of the product development process

  • Excellent project management skills and communication skills

  • Proficient in 3D CAD software, preferred CREO 4.0 and greater


Preferred Requirements


  • 3+ years of career experience in new product development as an individual contributor

  • Experience with analytical performance models, 2-Phase heat transfer fluids

  • Experience writing performance test requests, ASHRE/AHRI preferred

  • Knowledge of psychometric chart and (HCFC/HFC) refrigeration cycles

  • Basic knowledge of CFD and/or FEA software, preferred Ansys

  • Understanding of manufacturing limitations, break sheet metal and formed copper tubes
