Descripción del empleo

The Manufacturing Engineer – Laser Welding is responsible for collaborating with NPI, Quality, Maintenance, and Operations teams to lead process ownership for laser welding applications used in high-speed cable assemblies, backplane systems, and electronic interconnect products — supporting NPI, process transfer, production ramp, and stable mass production.

Responsibilities
  • Own manufacturing readiness and ongoing process performance for assigned products, including laser welding process definition, equipment, optics, fixtures, tooling, workstation design, process parameters, documentation, capacity, and training.
  • Define, validate, release, and maintain weld schedules, focal position, spot size, power, pulse profile, travel speed, beam path, shielding gas, clamping conditions, heat input, and acceptance criteria; establish robust process windows for thin metals, shields, terminals, and connector components.
  • Lead DFM reviews focused on material compatibility, coatings and plating, joint geometry, gap control, laser access, reflectivity, heat-affected-zone risk, distortion, spatter, porosity, and penetration.
  • Specify, qualify, install, and support laser welding systems, beam delivery, vision alignment, optics, motion platforms, fixtures, extraction, guarding, and poka-yoke devices.
  • Develop DOE and validation plans to confirm weld penetration, nugget size, joint strength, electrical resistance, dimensional stability, and process capability; establish first-article requirements, cross-sectioning, pull testing, inspection standards, SPC controls, and reaction plans.
  • Integrate laser welding with cable preparation, termination, shielding, connector assembly, and electrical test; partner with Signal Integrity and Test Engineering to evaluate weld-related effects on grounding, contact resistance, impedance, and high-speed electrical performance.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support during EVT, DVT, PVT, pilot, ramp, and mass production builds.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Welding, Materials, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on manufacturing or process engineering experience with laser welding in electronics, connectors, cable assemblies, medical devices, automotive, or another precision manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience developing, qualifying, transferring, optimizing, and troubleshooting laser welding processes from NPI through stable production.
  • Working knowledge of fiber, pulsed, continuous-wave, and/or green laser systems; beam delivery and focusing, laser-material interaction, metallurgy, weld joint design, shielding gas, vision alignment, fixture design, and precision weld inspection.
  • Strong knowledge of PFMEA, control plans, process validation, SPC, process capability, MSA, Gauge R&R, DOE, parameter traceability, equipment calibration, and engineering change control.
  • Proven problem-solving capability using 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, Pareto analysis, DOE, microscopy, metallographic cross-sectioning, pull testing, and CAPA.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, machine vision, automation, and laser safety is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; laser programming software, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Minitab, ERP/MRP, MES, and Power BI are a plus.
  • Results-oriented with a focus on yield, cycle time, and defect prevention.
  • Hands-on technical capability, project execution skills, and the ability to support production priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced English and excellent communication skills in Spanish and English.

We look forward to meeting you soon and having you join our team to achieve new goals together!
