Mettler Toledo in Tijuana, Mexico, seeks a Manufacturing Engineer - Automation Focus. This hybrid role combines manufacturing engineering ownership of production lines with hands-on automation project delivery from concept to production handover. Travel estimated at 5–10%.

The role requires a strong background in PLC/HMI programming, lean manufacturing, and experience delivering multiple automation projects, with leadership across NPI, PFMEA, and PPAP processes.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electronics, Electrical, Automation Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of combined experience in manufacturing engineering and industrial automation.
• Must have independently owned and supported at least one production line as a Manufacturing Engineer.
• Must have delivered at least two automation/projects from concept to production implementation.
• Hands-on experience with equipment installation, PLC/HMI modification, commissioning, troubleshooting, validation, and ramp-up.

• Lead or support NPI, production transfers, engineering changes, ramp-up, PFMEA, PPAP, risk assessments, and process validation.
• Identify and prioritize automation opportunities based on safety, quality, ergonomics, and ROI.
• Lead automation projects from concept through handover.
• Develop URS, equipment specifications, RFQs, and PLC/HMI programs.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineer - Automation Focus is a balanced hybrid role with approximately equal responsibility for manufacturing engineering and industrial automation. The position independently owns assigned production lines while designing, implementing, commissioning, and sustaining automation solutions. The engineer is accountable for manufacturing process performance, product introduction and transfer, engineering changes, troubleshooting, validation, continuous improvement, and automation project delivery from concept through production handover. Travel: 5% to 10%

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manufacturing Engineering and Production Line Ownership, approximately 50%

• Independently own assigned production lines and achieve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, capacity, and cost objectives.
• Develop, optimize, validate, and sustain assembly, test, inspection, and material-flow processes for electronic products.
• Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and process stabilization and recurring defects.
• Monitor and improve yield, cycle time, throughput, scrap, downtime, labor efficiency.
• Create and maintain work instructions, standard work, process specifications, layouts, control plans, and validation protocols.
• Lead or support NPI, production transfers, engineering changes, ramp-up, PFMEA, PPAP, risk assessments, and process validation.

2. Automation Engineering and Project Implementation, approximately 50%

• Identify and prioritize automation opportunities based on safety, quality, ergonomics, and financial return.
• Lead automation projects from concept and feasibility through design, procurement, installation, commissioning, validation, production release, and handover.
• Develop URS, equipment specifications, RFQs,
• Develop, modify, debug, and optimize PLC and HMI programs.

Required Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electronics, Electrical, Automation Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.

Required Experience

• Minimum 5 years of combined experience in manufacturing engineering, industrial automation, equipment engineering, or a related production environment, with substantial experience in both disciplines.
• Must have independently owned and supported at least one production line as a Manufacturing Engineer.
• Must have successfully delivered at least two automation, equipment, or process-automation projects from concept through production implementation.
• Hands-on experience with equipment installation, PLC/HMI modification, commissioning, troubleshooting, validation, training, and production ramp-up.
• Experience managing automation suppliers, machine builders, or system integrators.
• NPI or production-line transfer experience is preferred.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

• Hands-on PLC programming and troubleshooting experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Omron, Mitsubishi, or equivalent.
• Experience developing or modifying HMI applications and performing I/O checks, sequence debugging, alarm analysis, interlock verification, and cycle optimization.
• Translate manufacturing needs into automation requirements, technical specifications, acceptance criteria, and implementation plans.
• Read electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, mechanical drawings, equipment layouts, and PLC logic.
• Experience integrating at least two of the following: machine vision, robotics, servo/motion control, automated testing, traceability, MES/SCADA, or industrial networks.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, PFMEA, control plans, PPAP, validation, capability analysis, machine safety, and change control.
• Practical project management covering scope, schedule, budget, risk, suppliers, and cross-functional execution.
• Advanced English, C1 level or above, with the ability to use English as a primary working language.
