Job summary

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC is seeking an experienced manufacturing engineer to lead CNC machining initiatives across North America. You will drive productivity, lead capital projects from specification to ramp-up, and influence make-versus-buy decisions.

The role requires deep machining knowledge, Lean/OEE/TPM mastery, and collaboration with maintenance, quality, and purchasing to meet safety and performance goals.

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of CNC machining processes and machine tool tech.
• Proficient in GD&T and machining metrology (CMM, in-process gauging).
• Knowledge of FAT/SAT protocols and machine capability studies.
• Understanding of make-versus-buy economics and cost modeling.
• Knowledge of machining cast iron, aluminum, and steel; air brake tech preferred.
• Lean Manufacturing, OEE, and TPM applied to machining.
• Familiarity with automation (robots, gantry loaders, pallet pool) and flexible manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Drive productivity improvements on CNC centers; improve OEE, cycle time, uptime, tool life, and first-pass yield.
• Lead capital machine projects end-to-end: URS, RFQ, vendor eval, FAT/SAT, installation, handover.
• Support make-versus-buy decisions with capacity analysis and cost-per-piece modeling.
• Develop and optimize machining processes: fixturing, tooling, speeds & feeds, CNC/CAM strategy.
• Reduce tooling costs via standardization, life optimization, regrind programs, supplier tooling.
• Lead 8D/A3/root cause analysis for downtime and quality/capacity issues.
• Create and maintain equipment/process docs: PFMEAs, control plans, flow diagrams, work instructions.
• Partner with maintenance on TPM and preventive/predictive maintenance.
• Manage machine tool builders, integrators, and tooling suppliers; provide technical direction.
• Apply GD&T to ensure machines, fixtures, gauging meet drawings and QA needs.
• Prepare capital requests with ROI justification; distinguish hard savings from cost avoidance.
• Advocate machine monitoring and Industry 4.0 data collection on machining equipment.
• Ensure equipment compliance with safety standards (ANSI B11, NFPA 79, NOM in Mexico).
• Support new product launches/transfers with routings, labor standards, cycle estimates, cost estimates.
• Mentor technicians, operators, and junior engineers; train on machining processes and tools.
• Coordinate with production, quality, maintenance, purchasing, and central AME for alignment.
