Job description

Seven countries. One standard of accounting quality. Yours.

A global professional services group is hiring a LATAM Regional Controller based in Mexico City to own controllership across its Latin American operations. This is a confidential search.

You will own the monthly close, the accounting decisions, statutory reporting and audits, local tax and VAT compliance, and the regional cash forecast — in seven countries:

How you will run the region
  • Mexico and Chile — hands-on. The region's largest and most complex operations. You own the close, statutory reporting and tax yourself.
  • Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Panama — review level. You review, approve and challenge the work of in-country accountants and local advisors, and set one close standard for all.
  • Corporate — single point of contact. You are the link between Latin America and corporate finance on every controllership matter.

Please note: this is a pure controllership role. It does not include FP&A, budgeting, operating forecasts or business partnering with operations. If owning accounting quality across a region is what you want, read on.

Reporting line: Corporate Controllership (functional) and Regional Managing Director, Latin America (matrix). You will work closely with regional FP&A and with global Tax, Treasury, Internal Audit and IT.

What you will own

Monthly close across seven countries

  • Own the regional close calendar: hands-on in Mexico and Chile, review-level in the other five markets.
  • Review and approve reconciliations, journal entries and trial balances prepared by in-country accountants.
  • Resolve differences between local books and corporate reporting, including local GAAP to UK GAAP/IFRS adjustments (Mexican NIF to UK GAAP/IFRS).
  • Own the region's accounting decisions and technical positions: consistent with corporate policy, well documented, escalated when needed.
  • Own the integrity of revenue recognition, WIP, receivables and provisions at every close.
  • Standardize close procedures and templates across the region, using Mexico and Chile as the model.

Statutory reporting and audits

  • Ensure timely statutory financial statements in all seven countries, including Mexican statutory reporting under NIF.
  • Run local statutory audits end to end as the auditors' main contact, directly in Mexico and Chile.
  • Keep a regional compliance calendar of filing deadlines and audit milestones by country.
  • Support group audits with accurate, timely schedules and responses.

Local tax and VAT

  • Oversee tax and VAT compliance across the region, hands-on in Mexico (ISR, IVA, DIOT, SAT electronic reporting) and Chile, with local tax advisors.
  • Monitor regulatory changes in each country and assess their impact on reporting obligations.

Cash forecasting and funding

  • Own the regional cash forecast and prepare funding requests to the parent company, with regional FP&A and Treasury.
  • Track actual cash against forecast and flag funding needs, timing and variances to corporate early.

SAP implementation — regional finance workstream

  • Represent LATAM controllership requirements in the upcoming SAP implementation, so close, statutory and tax processes for all seven countries are built into design and testing.
  • Validate local statutory, tax and VAT configurations (including CFDI e-invoicing in Mexico and fiscal localization in each country) before go-live.
  • Coordinate UAT with in-country accountants and support hypercare after go-live.

Corporate interface and team oversight

  • Translate corporate reporting requirements into processes each country can execute.
  • Report close status, compliance, risks and open items to corporate, and escalated country risks on time.
  • Give technical guidance and quality review to accountants in all seven markets, including onboarding and training on corporate policy and new SAP processes.
What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and controllership experience, including multi-country responsibility in Latin America.
  • Expert command of Mexican accounting and tax: NIF, ISR and IVA compliance, CFDI, contabilidad electrónica and DIOT, plus direct experience handling SAT requirements and statutory audits in Mexico.
  • Experience owning accounting decisions under UK GAAP or IFRS (revenue recognition, WIP, receivables, provisions) and local GAAP conversion, in a multinational reporting to a UK or global parent.
  • A track record of running local statutory audits and supporting group audits on time.
  • Experience building cash forecasts and funding requests in a multinational or growth-stage environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Chilean statutory, tax and VAT requirements, and enough knowledge of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Panama to review and challenge local advisors.
  • Fluent Spanish and English.
  • Proven ability to guide in-country teams across several jurisdictions and explain local compliance and risk clearly to corporate stakeholders.
Nice to have
  • Experience in an ERP implementation or migration, ideally SAP, representing finance or controllership from design through go-live.
  • Portuguese, given Brazil is in scope.
Why this role
  • Real regional scope: seven countries and one close standard that you define.
  • A system to shape: you are the controllership voice in SAP design before go-live, not after.
  • A direct line to corporate finance in a global group.
  • Room to build process and discipline where they are still maturing.
