Descripción del empleo

Are you interested in bringing your expertise to worldwide leading information company?

Do you want to contribute to an information organization recognized all over the world?

Reuters is seeking a Bureau Chief in Mexico to deliver agenda-setting journalism and deeply reported insights into Latin America’s second-largest economy. Intertwined with U.S. supply chains, migration policy and crime-fighting efforts, Mexico’s tense relationship with Washington has raised questions about whether a popular leftist government can capitalize on a potential “nearshoring” boom and turn the corner on long-running security struggles. This role requires a newsroom leader who will set editorial ambitions on these and other stories while managing a team of beat reporters in Mexico City, where the job is based, and a network of stringers across Central America and the Caribbean. The Bureau Chief plays a vital role in maintaining editorial quality, operational safety, and strategic alignment with broader regional and global goals. This is a leadership position requiring clear editorial vision, excellent news judgment, and proven management experience.

About the Role

As Bureau Chief in Mexico, you will:

  • Set editorial priorities and strategy for the bureau, ensuring alignment with the organization's regional and global news agenda.
  • Oversee a team of beat reporters focused on initiative and specialist reporting and breaking exclusive news.
  • Drive a newsroom culture that values originality, depth, and relevance, championing coverage that stands apart from the competition.
  • Ensure the bureau delivers timely and accurate reporting on major developments, while also pursuing forward-looking, agenda-setting stories.
  • Provide strong editorial oversight, including mentoring reporters, editing copy where needed and elevating the quality of output across formats.
  • Foster collaboration across desks and formats, ensuring the bureau contributes effectively to multimedia storytelling.
About You

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with a track record of coaching and developing high-performing journalists
  • Excellent news judgment, story framing ability, and a deep understanding of audience needs
  • Experience delivering both fast-moving breaking news and high-impact enterprising journalism
  • Advanced English proficiency both written and spoken. Candidates will be tested before setting up an interview
  • Fluent Spanish and a strong grasp of Mexico’s politics, economics, and key industries
  • Commitment to journalistic standards, safety, and integrity, and the ability to manage risk in high-pressure environments
  • Ability to work across editorial formats and lead in a multimedia newsroom
