A leading media and entertainment company in Mexico City is seeking an Associate Counsel to handle various legal matters related to distribution throughout Latin America. This role requires a strong legal background, with a minimum of 2 years in media affairs, and fluency in English and Spanish. The ideal candidate will negotiate contracts, analyze regulatory impacts, and collaborate with other legal functions to ensure best practices. This position offers a full-time opportunity in a fast-paced environment.

Formación

  • Minimum of 2 years of media business and legal affairs experience.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish; Portuguese is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Mexican media laws.

Responsabilidades

  • Negotiate and draft legal documents for distribution agreements.
  • Support Distribution Team's best practices in content rights.
  • Analyze regulatory impacts in Mexico.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel and NBCUniversal’s Corporate teams.
  • Monitor regulatory developments in Mexico and advise on impact.
  • Communicate with internal clients and lead meetings as needed.
  • Assist with risk management and policy training for the business.
  • Support additional matters as required by the business or legal function.

Job Description

As an Associate Counsel within NBCUniversal’s Latin America business, you will support the business on a wide range of legal matters relating to the distribution of NBCUniversal channels and services across Latin America.

Responsibilities
  • Negotiate, draft, and interpret legal documents relating to the distribution of NBCUniversal channels and services across Latin America (e.g., distribution agreements and promotion authorizations designed to acquire and retain subscribers).
  • Partner with the Distribution Team to support the development of best practices in line with NBCUniversal’s content rights.
  • Support the development of processes and templates designed to ensure the long‑term efficiency of the legal function.
  • Work with the Content Protection Team to combat piracy in the region; including the drafting of cease and desist letters, collaboration with allies, and lobbying applicable governments to gain support.
  • Analyze industry and regulatory developments in Mexico with the goal of identifying and managing possible impacts to the business.
  • Communicate effectively to internal clients to ensure efficient management of open matters, including organizing and leading meetings as necessary.
  • Collaborate as needed with subject‑matter experts; including outside counsel as well as NBCUniversal’s Corporate legal teams, including the Compliance, Tax, Corporate Secretary, Privacy, Cyber Security, and Litigation Teams.
  • Inspire collaboration across the legal function by developing and maintaining relationships with relevant counterparts across the globe.
  • Train and counsel the business on applicable policies and best practices, including approval processes, key contractual issues, and risk management.
  • Provide support on any other matters that the business or legal function may need.
Basic Qualifications
  • Degree from accredited law school, demonstrated academic achievement, and current bar membership in Mexico in good standing.
  • A minimum of 2 years of media business and legal affairs experience at a law firm and/or media company.
  • Working knowledge of relevant Mexican media and telecommunication laws.
  • Language: Fluent in English & Spanish; Portuguese is a plus.
Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
