What is Accountable? Accountable is a young fintech / taxtech company focused on helping the self-employed automate their accounting and taxes with a simple mobile and web app. We have 60 employees across offices in Berlin and Brussels, as well as remote locations throughout Europe. Our goal is to create a product that is incredibly easy and fun to use, requiring no prior knowledge of tax or accounting. We are growing at over 150% annually, aiming to become the European leader in our market.

As a Node.js backend engineer, you will join one of our squads. You will collaborate closely with product managers, tax coaches, and other engineers to develop scalable and compliant solutions for self-employed users and accountants. You will be part of a larger engineering team (18-25 developers) and work within a squad led by a Product Owner, owning a specific part of the application.

AWS, Node.js, Express, JS, TypeScript, MongoDB, Git

1. Code, maintain, and coordinate the evolution of the current application.
2. Collaborate with the product team on defining, evolving, and maintaining our codebase.
3. Help define strategic initiatives to improve code quality, guidelines, processes, tools, infrastructure, and workflows.
4. Troubleshoot and debug issues using application logs.
5. Review code through Pull Requests.

1. 5+ years of industry experience in back-end development and REST APIs.
2. Proficiency in written and spoken English.
3. Expertise in TypeScript.
4. Comfortable in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
5. Strong problem-solving skills for complex engineering challenges.
6. Good understanding of modern TypeScript/Node.js development methodologies, processes, and tooling.
7. Pragmatic engineering approach balancing seamless user experiences, code quality, maintainability, and time to market.
8. Appreciation for a code-review culture.
9. Curiosity about new technologies and drive to implement innovative solutions.
10. Experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Event-Driven Architectures.
