Job summary

METLEN Energy & Metals is seeking a Senior Permitting Engineer to join the Renewable Energy team in Milan, Italy. You will lead permitting and regulatory compliance for flagship solar, wind and energy storage projects, coordinating with internal and external specialists to keep projects on track.

You will identify opportunities, manage interconnections, negotiate with DNOs/TSOs and landowners, and maintain strong relationships with authorities to secure timely approvals.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in renewable energy project development, with focus on permitting and compliance.
• Bachelor's degree in related field.
• MSc or MBA will be considered an asset.
• Proven experience with grid interconnection agreements, expropriation processes, and negotiations with landowners.

Responsibilities

• Lead the permitting process by managing documentation, timelines, and relationships with authorities to secure timely approvals for project development, installation, and operation.
• Identify and evaluate new renewable energy business opportunities, including Greenfield and Brownfield projects, joint ventures, and acquisitions, while ensuring compliance with permitting and regulatory requirements.
• Negotiate interconnection agreements with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Transmission System Operators (TSOs), and joint ventures related to grid infrastructure.
• Collaborate with internal and external multidisciplinary teams to prepare and submit comprehensive permitting documents, ensuring regulatory compliance and adherence to approval conditions.
• Maintain strong stakeholder relationships, including local and regional authorities, landowners, and technical teams, to expedite approvals and mitigate risks.

We are currently looking for a Senior Permitting Engineer to join our Renewable Energy team, part of our Energy Division based in Milan, Italy

By joining this role, you’ll play a vital role in driving the permitting processes that power our renewable energy projects, contributing to our mission of sustainable energy generation.

What you bring to the role:

3 +years of experience in renewable energy project development, with a strong focus on permitting and compliance

A bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, engineering, environmental science, or related fields

MSc or MBA will be considered an asset

Proven experience with grid interconnection agreements, expropriation processes, and negotiations with landowners

Strong knowledge of renewable energy technologies (solar, wind, BESS, etc.), local regulations, and technical configurations

Exceptional networking skills with local and regulatory authorities

Fluency in Italian and English

Compensation & Contractual Framework

The starting gross annual salary (RAL) for this position is € 48 ,200 based on objective and gender-neutral criteria.

The final compensation may reflect the candidate’s relevant experience and competencies, in line with the Company’s remuneration framework.
