Job summary

JMG Solutions Ltd seeks an experienced Mechanical Construction Manager to lead delivery of critical mechanical systems on a major hyperscale data centre development. You will manage site activities, coordinate mechanical subcontractors and the general contractor, and ensure installation quality, programme performance and commissioning readiness.

In this hands-on role you will oversee design coordination, procurement through installation and testing, drive issue resolution, and support handover

Qualifications

• Significant experience in mechanical construction management on large-scale data centre projects.
• Strong knowledge of chilled water systems, HVAC, plumbing and fire protection.
• Proven ability to manage subcontractors and coordinate installation within complex programmes.
• Experience reviewing drawings, shop drawings, material submissions and installation methods.
• Expertise in construction sequencing, resource planning and programme recovery.

Responsibilities

• Review mechanical issued-for-construction designs to establish scope, identify potential installation challenges and highlight design discrepancies requiring resolution.
• Coordinate mechanical subcontractors and the General Contractor to resolve access constraints, construction interfaces and sequencing issues.
• Develop and monitor short-term construction programmes and labour forecasts, implementing recovery plans where progress falls behind schedule.
• Support the preparation and review of method statements and assist site teams in resolving technical and installation queries.
• Develop mechanical flushing strategies and associated method statements, coordinating system readiness ahead of testing and commissioning.
• Conduct mechanical system walkdowns to verify installation completeness and readiness for testing.
• Oversee mechanical testing and commissioning activities, including pressure testing, leak testing, flushing, cleaning and balancing.
• Coordinate with specialist equipment suppliers to ensure installation, testing and commissioning requirements are understood and achieved.
• Support the commissioning of mechanical systems through advanced commissioning stages, working closely with contractors and commissioning specialists.
• Ensure mechanical systems outside the primary commissioning team's scope are properly tested, commissioned and documented.
• Drive the resolution of outstanding defects and commissioning issues, supporting final inspections, system acceptance and handover.
• Share technical expertise and project experience with mechanical contractors to promote consistent installation standards and continuous improvement across project phases.
