Mercor is seeking PDF Annotation & Transcription Experts fluent in Odia for a remote contract position. Responsibilities include sourcing Odia PDFs, annotating structure, recording relationships, and precise transcription in Odia script.

The role requires meticulous attention to character-level accuracy and systematic taxonomy across pages. Ideal candidates have experience in annotation, transcription, localization or related fields, and can review work by peers.

Position: PDF Annotation & Transcription Experts - Odia
Type: Contract
Compensation: $13/hour
Location: Remote

Role Responsibilities

• Source documents: Find a publicly accessible Odia PDF in an assigned document type with multimodal elements. Record the source.
• Annotate structure: Identify and bound every meaningful region of the page. Assign each a component type and a reading-order index.
• Record relationships: Link each region to its parent component, such as a figure or table.
• Transcribe faithfully: Reproduce all text exactly as it appears in Odia script, including handwritten content. Flag any illegible regions.
• Capture page metadata: Document language, type, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, and handwriting.
• Review a colleague's work: Conduct end-to-end reviews of tasks by a second Odia expert.

Qualifications

Must-Have

• Native Odia speaker with full command of the script.
• Experience in annotation, transcription, translation, localization, subtitling, proofreading, journalism, or regional-language data review.
• Exact character-level accuracy.
• Systematic application of taxonomy across pages.
• Comfort with unfamiliar layouts like multi-column newspapers and handwritten forms.

Preferred

• Experience with regional-language AI data annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation.
• Skills in transcription and localization: MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, or post-editing.
• Document production skills: typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization of Odia-language material.
• Knowledge of script and encoding: Unicode normalization, Odia input methods, numeral-form, and character-form accuracy.
